Spent a memorable nerve-wracking week in Las Vegas working on a very high-end A/V install... no time for sightseeing, and not even time to pack a good camera! These were taken with a lousy disposable, but some might appreciate them...


Left: The Strip. We were supposed to get rooms at the Frontier, just across the street from the site, but wound up at a crummy Extended Stay a couple of miles away. Right: The main building of Wynn Vegas, the newest resort in town. My employers are doing a lot of the A/V stuff here, including the Aqua Theater and the high-roller rooftop villas...


Here's what you see as you enter each villa garden via the service entrance from the roof of the complex surrounding the main pool area. Nice, huh? Not sure what the nightly rate is, but I do know that these are comped to people who have $5 million on the table in the casino. Also, one of the three we did that week is for the personal use of the owner.



A typical living room... One of our small pop-up LCDs can be seen back behind the bar. There are ceiling speakers which get program from a variety of sources, and the lighting, HVAC, and drapes are all controlled by our control system (Crestron). As the decorating was done already, we had to either wear "booties" or go around in our stocking feet inside the villas. We also were not allowed to sit on the furniture or use the bathrooms- to hit the head, we had to walk back on the roof to a service elevator, then go to the basement and walk some more to an employee's restroom. It was about 1/2 mile walk round-trip... and that freight elevator is sllloooowwww.... no fun when you really have to go!!



Each villa has his and hers bathrooms on each of two floors... not much A/V in there, except for small LCDs. But they are pretty amazing!


A typical bedroom, with a 50" plasma TV that rises out of a cabinet at the push of a button. The master bedrooms (not pictured) have one that drops out of the ceiling.... on the right: a media room install, with a 60" plasma. The media rooms also have a fairly good surround-sound system...


Didn't have much time for relaxing or fun on this trip, but here's some highlights: a rainbow seen from the hotel roof, and on the right, one of our Maryland techs being tag-teamed by two wonderful mutts belonging to one of the Vegas techs, who invited us to his place for a BBQ one night. That was a much-needed, therapeutic break...

How the other half live eh.

Not bad photos for a throwaway job. Not bad at all. Thanks for letting us have a peek. I only stayed there overnight on my way to the Grand Canyon but Vegas is not my favourite spot in the US. I think you either love it or hate it.

Oh yeah, they're literally right at the gate. But let's face it, nobody leaving Las Vegas has any savings left to gamble.
Except me- I was so busy that week I only spent about 30 minutes gambling- pulling slots at the airport gate on my way out. Lost three bucks. I'm not much of a gambler; if my poker game wasn't so rusty I might've tried  sitting in at a low-stakes table.... poker is only about 50% luck.
Maybe next time... I have a feeling I'll be back there in the near future.
