I think I saw a video of this.  It was the most incredible recovery I've ever seen.  The pilot was falling out of the sky like nobody's business.  At about 10ft off the ground, he righted it, fired full afterburners (briefly lighting the grass on fire) which got him another 100ft or so, and he and his copilot ejected, with the plane crashing just behind them.  Unbelievable, wish I remembered where the vid was... (even if this wasn't that particular accident, it was still a spectacular recovery)

Wrong crash there Beefhole. You're thinking of the SU-30 at Le Bourget just a few years ago (1999).... Smiley

This one in the original post was Anatoly Kvotchur (iffy spelling) in 1989, who if I remember rightly, had a habit of having to eject. He ejected very late in this sequence at quite a high downward velocity, and was lucky to survive...

Kvotchur had a birdstrike at low altitude.
The Su-30 had a double engine failure, and because of this they involuntarily demonstated the only major design problem of the land-based flanker: the tail stinger.

The visually best MiG-29 crash was the one in 1993

Ive seen a lot of these "moment of impact" pictures, and videos and it always amazes me how the planes just collapse into the ground rather than bouncing and rolling. Also, the still picture look like crashes in FS where the plane just sticks in the ground like a lawn dart.

Aeroplanes don't really have bouncing tendancies. ANy aircraft hittilng the ground at anything other than slow speeds will tend to make itself into a rather large mess Generally in a near vertical impact the tail does its best to say hello to the nose(assisted by the to big engine things...) and the engines try and did themselves as big a hole as possible before realising soil isn't quite up to the same combustion levels as air, and then they just give up.... Smiley
