Formula 1’s governing body has called for the BAR-Honda team to be thrown out of the 2005 world championship at the Appeal Court hearing in Paris.

The FIA also recommended that the team be fined a minimum of one million euros in the evidence dossier it submitted to the Court.

“The FIA asks the Court to exclude the Lucky Strike BAR Honda team from the 2005 Formula One World Championship and to fine the team at least one million Euros,” said an FIA spokesman.

The governing body is appealing the verdict of race stewards at the San Marino Grand Prix to uphold Jenson Button’s third place finish despite the fact that Briton’s car was found to be 5 kg below the 600 kg minimum weight limit.

I think that is way to harsh. If it were 15 to 20kg i could understand and i still dont think it was deliberate. Undecided

Well, its well known that Bernie and Max are very pro Ferrari. BAR were also the most threatening team last year, and on the Imola showing look on the right track this year after the shakey start, so Maranello input would not suprise me.

The sooner the 9 other teams break away from Ferrari the better. Ferrari seem to have forgotten there position from 1979-1999, when they weren't quite the success they are now... Angry

For once Ferrari have nothing to do with this. Now had BAR beaten Ferrari at imola i am sure people would be crying about it, and maybe they would have had a point. BAR are of little threat to Ferrari right now.
They wont be thrown out anyway i think the FIA are just doing this to perhaps scare the other teams into going with the new rules. And if they do, they will proove themselves to be the hypocrites they are becoming by taking away competition that they are trying to promote.

A seperate bit of news, but the new V8 engines for next year onwards, will cost the cars an average of 4 seconds a lap. Safe to say we will be seeing go-karts which are faster by 2010. I have a video clip of "the lap" Donnington 1993 Ayrton Senna goes from 5th to first in heavy rain in 1 lap, considered by most the greatest lap ever. The speed those cars were doing round corners is what we need now.

In sports as large and as lucrative as this, and with the very strong connections between certain people in certain places you can never count anything out in these days...

True, but i still think they are a little busy trying to fix their cars to be worried about BAR, a team who has managed only one race finish themselves. Barcelona this week will be a real indication of who are the better teams.

I'm afraid after the Mansell era F1 got a bit to sterile and "safe" for me. It was just tobacco ads doing 200mph...
Now MotoGP on the other hand has gone from dull to incredibly exciting in the last 5 years. Its always one of the two that is on the up while the other is on the down-swing.

The BAR-Honda Formula 1 team has been given a two-race ban following a hearing at the FIA Court of Appeal in Paris on Wednesday.

This means that Jenson Button and Takuma Sato must now sit out this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix and the Monaco GP at the end of the month.

The FIA has concluded that the team broke regulations by using fuel as ballast, which could have a given it a performance advantage.

Button's car was found to be underweight when drained of fuel after the San Marino Grand Prix at Imola after finishing third, and although the FIA-appointed stewards upheld the result after lengthy debate, the governing body later appealed against their decision.

BAR-Honda has had the 10 points that it scored in the San Marino Grand Prix taken away.

It has also been given a six month suspended ban, which will remain in place for a year.

well that sucks, better than a year i guess.
Once again, thank you Mr Troll, i mean Ecclestone for not doing whats right for the fans.

I was thinking though, IF BAR had been banned for the year, how long would it have been before Nick Heidfeld became Williams test driver as Jenson Button took the seat that Sir Frank had wanted him for...
