Dual Opteron or Xeon would be better than P4 or 64.

Just my £0.02

If you can wait a tad id get FX-57 8) Why would a dual Xeon be better? Unless hes doin editing or something I see it as not to good? Also rember the more ram you put in the more data lag you get I dont recoment much more than 1 gig if you are not editing, and we are talkin editing not none of this M$ paint bs 8)

Gaming chips, they are not. That would be an utter waste of resources. You'd be far better off with any of the AMD64 chips, at half the price.

Ultimate for what??

Gaming- Go with my specs.

AutoCAD, video editing, etc.- Go with my ultimate computer (the game engine raper, search for that thread). Except, replace the two 6800 ultras with two Nvidia Quadro 4400.

As a single processor the P4 and the 64 will be better, however as a dual option they are not as good as the processors designed for dual CPU applications.

Currently not many games support dual CPUs, however as soon as the dual core CPUs come out games will be designed to support multi-threading etc... This means that dual CPU/dual core CPU systems will be viable for the latest games in the very near future.

My orginal specs were:
AMD Athlon64 FX-55
ASUS "A8N-SLI Deluxe" nForce4 SLI
eVGA e-GeForce 6800 Ultra
eVGA e-GeForce 6800 Ultra
4 GB Kingston HyperX Dual Channel PC-3200 (DDR400)
Seagate 37 GB 15000 RPM SCSI HD
Western Digital Rapter 74 GB 10000 RPM
Creative Labs Audigy 4 Pro
Vapochill LS w/ Lian Li PC-70 case
Windows XP 64-bit Edition

and I think they will suit you just fine. You can x out the vapochill and replace it with a zalmon copper heatsink. It should satisfy any performence demands you have.

If you only do gaming, get a x850 xt pe, quadro's are for professional applications like cad or intense 3d gfx rendering (not games)

I was gonna take A+ then I learned we learned on computers that use ISA cards and 200 Mhz cpus get the drift. Anyways I do have the A+ 2003 book here incase I get in a jam. My philosiphy on getting hired at a cmputer shop: Your job interview is : go in and boss puts down some parts, some faulty, some buggy, some work. He lets you build it and identify faulty parts and problems, if you complete your hired. I thing A+ bs is nonsence. Cheesy
