first of all need some advice on me computer,
i am runnin a:
P3 coppermine 800 mhz
20 GB HDD
52x CD-Rom
184mb Ram
Nvidia Riva TNT 2 Model 64 PCi Graphics card,
Logitech Attack3 Joystick.

which would i be better off upgrading the motherboard / processor, or the memory/graphics card????

Secondly i just want to say that FS2004 is the best flight sim out there at the moment, just bought it today and i am over the moon with it,   Grin i'm so used to FS98 that the actual aircraft are more astheticly pleasing to the eye,

this is my first post btw.

Processer and mobo. They are getting a little old, and as your card is still kinda at todays standirds your fine there
Personally ide get

Mobo: Anything by Asus (Socket LG775)
Processer: P4 3.2Ghz northwood (unless your case is really cool then go with a Prescott and HT0
GFX: ATi Radeon x800 (your not going to have to buy another card for atleast the next four years)
HDD: 200G Seagate or Western Digital

Hope this helps, but seriously upgrade the brains before you upgrade the eyes and memory of your monster

cheers

imho trying to upgrade that system is going to be a waste of time. If you can afford a new PC then great, if not you're probably better off waiting untill you can.

i woulld have installed this version of flight sim but i had trouble finding fS 2004 imagine the trouble that would have to go through to find the previous version lol.
i can understand what you all mean about not trying to upgrade my current computer just looked at the maximum specs and its absolutely crap lol.

Also just looked at buildin my own one and i'm wonderin what you all think of these componants for it:

Processor: Intel Celeron 335 478-Pin 2.5 ghz 533fsb 256kb processor

Processor Cooler: Nexus PHT 3600 Skive Tech Silent, P4 Heat sink and fan

Motherboard: Sapphire ATI IGP9100 ATX 128MB 9200 graphics on-chip, USB 2.0 & LAN 6 ch. Sound & H/W monitoring

Memory: Original 400MHz 184Pin 512MB PC3200 DDR RAM DIMM 2.5V 3.2Gb/Sec

Case: 350W Chimera Tower PC Case

Sound: Soundblaster24 bit digital sound card

Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar 120Gb 2Mb Cache
Hard Disk Drive ATA 100 <8.9ms 7200rpm

Graphics: Novatech ATI Radeon 9250 128MB DDR AGP

Graphics Card - TV Out

DVD Drive: Teac DV 516E - Disk drive - DVD-ROM - internal - 5.25" - IDE

DVD Writer: Dual Layer & 16x DVD+/-R & 4x DVDRW Retail Kit

Power: 400W ATX Power Supply for AMD, P3 and P4 mainboards

FDD: 1.44mb 3.5inch fdd (black)

this is what i am hopeing to build for around £420 i have got the prices on all the componants and worked out that i should be able to afford a little bit every 4 weeks lol.

Thanks

For a cheap rig you will need:

PSU = ATX v.2 (450w+ ?) in some sort of cheap case.

Late chipset mainboard= nForce2 based for "el cheapo"

CPU= AMD XP2800+

RAM= 512mb (single stick) or 1024mb (dual matching 512mb ) PC3200 - 400mhz DDR

video card= nvidia 6600GT

The rest you can scavenge from your old rig, but you need more hard disk space really.

For a bit more, it would be well worth buying an nForce4 ultra chipset based mainboard and a new Venice cored CPU.

You dont need a soundcard, fancy case etc, etc..... better to spend the dough on a great chipset, CPU and video card, the rest can come later.

...Mainboard: Asus P5K-Premium, CPU=Intel E6850 @ x8x450fsb 3.6ghz, RAM: 4gb PC8500 Team Dark, Video: NV8800GT, HDD: 2x1Tb Samsung F3 RAID-0 + 1Tb F3, PSU: Antec 550 Basiq, OS: Win7x64, Display: 24" WS LCD

Generally speaking, you can't build a good computer with decent performce in modern games (fs2004 included) for under a 1000 USD.
