My Memphis Int'l Airport scenery,  always starts-up in a field just to the left of runway 36C.

Any way I can get it to start-up normally on a runway?

I have downloaded 3rd party "gates" and "signs," but don't recall If I had the problem before the downloads.

I use QuickGoto now to get to a runway, so I can live with it, but it is annoying.

Any thoughts?

Hi Jeffrey

When your in the main menu go to:

1) Current Location (change)

Then go to the box at the bottom of the screen:

2) Runway/Starting Position

Click the arrow & then just change it to 'Active Runway'

Voila.

Coke,

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately I already had "Active Runway" indicated as starting position. I tried it again . Same field.

I tried the other "Starting Position" options with the following results:

36L - same field to the left of 36C;
18R - in a field to the right of 18R
18L - inside a building in front of a large parking lot.

Any other thoughts?

Anyone?

Sorry Jeffrey, that goes beyond my limited knowledge then, I've never had that problem myself.

Could be something to do with files, but then again, that could be completely wrong aswell - you need someone knowledgeable about the inner workings of FS, Commoner, Hagar or Eno are all pretty clued up on these sort of things, so just sit tight & hope that they see this thread.

Good luck,

TSC.

If you installed third party scenery, it must have come with an AFCAD file. Look around the folder and install the AFCAD using AFCAD for FS2002. If not, then I don't know 8)

It's most probably that you didn't install the AFCAD, if any, came with it.

Cheers,

I had the trouble, too, so I just now checked AFCAD layout of kmem. sure enuff a downloaded (new) file for kmem is corrupted. ONLY ONE RUNWAY SHOWED IN AFCAD. to correct, open AFCAD, EDit, restore airport and scroll down to the ORIGINAL kmem and check restore. The offending  file will go away and kmem will be restored to original 3 runway configuration

Papa,

I accessed AFCAD.exe and got to KMEM that showed only one  runway as you said it would.

When I opened EDIT there were only three options:

-Undo
-redo
-select all

There was nothing about "restore airport" or the ability to scroll down to ORIGINAL kmem, etc..

What am I doing wrong?

I got out the AFCAD manual and in AFCAD went to "Catalog/Delete/Restore Airports."  I found Memphis and clicked "Restore Stock Airport."

A window came up stating;

KMEM 'Memphis Int'l' has stock (unmodified) facility data. It does not need to be restored."

Actually I had downloaded two modifications to KMEM; one for Signs and the other for Gates, so I don't see why AFCAD says it's unmodified.

I'm afraid I'm totally lost.

If anyone can help or point me to a helpful link, I would greatly appreciate it.

If you're trying to get rid of the addon scenery and go back to the way it was, just go to the scenery library and uncheck it.  That should do the trick.

Sorry Jeffrey, you have to open kmem in (AFCAD. EXE) file, then go to FILE AFTER KMEM SHOWS and it will read as I said. papa-metro usaf 1953-57

I am attempting to clean up the mess that I started.

The designer uploaded this scenery at Avsim as well as Flightsim.com. At Avsim he completely reworked the scenery so that it now opens on a runway - that was my original concern.  Unfortunately the signs are all  there, but they are blank. I've e-mailed the designer asking how to fix the signs.

At Avsim, the "good" scenery is "Kmem_ng.zip" if anyone is interested.

In order to close this miserable thread for good, I'll get back with, hopefully, a solution to the sign problem.

I was getting suicidal with that damn plane opening in the middle of a field. I've taken my 9mm auto out of my mouth and am now quite calm.

I'm back and frustrated as ever.

I found a fix for the signs at Avsim but it didn't work either.

The scenery guy hasn't answered me yet. He has three e-mail addresses, two of which were returned as undeliverable.

Does anyone have runway signs that work for KMEM????
