You may remember Dave Eckert?  Brought out the stellar B-26 and Stearman.  Well, I saw this at his site:

Quote:
Due to the hassle this has created, I'm sad to say that this may very well be my last freeware project (baring my pending HH-43F I promised to a wonderful group of Viet Nam veterans)

It seems that he has gotten a LOT of grief about the Stearman, even been accused of having a virus in the auto -installer.  It even got to the point that he pulled it on AVsim.  Too bad really, considering that the Stearman was payware quality.

I hope that other members of SimV agree with me that your Stearman was one of the best things to come along.  I hope you'll reconsider...

I don't blame him...

The Flight Simulation Community at large is going to learn the hard way as more and more top quality guys switch over from Freeware to Payware. Some of the people on Avsim were very quick with their lips and said some things they shouldn't have. I mean, where does a person get off telling a Developer that he need's a thicker skin?

If you, as an End User, wanna shoot yourself in the foot, go ahead, just don't drag everybody down with you!

Regards,
Stratobat

Thanks for the support guys!

It really does mean more to me than you know. Releasing a new model is really quit nerve-racking and emotiions run high.

There will be more freebies in the future. I will however be more careful where I post my files. Of course Simviation as always, will be one of my sites of choice.

Dave please keep making your great aircraft. The Stearman is probably the biplane I've got most hours on in FS (the Tiger Moth a close second!) Wink

Mark

Ps. If a Stearman is good enough for Steve McQueen its good enough for me 8)

Nice to see you posting here Dave and nice to hear that there will be more freeware from you.

It's a shame that the asshats can't seem to figure out which way is up...but you will face that anywhere you go I guess.

Thanks for all of your great planes... past, present and future. Smiley

The one thing that no one has mentioned - Hasn't anyone spotted the beer cans the Dave keeps "losing" in his models?

it's a private joke with me and my old buddy Felix. I almost got out of designing before I started. Felix saved me.

Grin .. I get what you're talking about & I'll look out for them - though I know from 1st hand that designers of things we actually touch & feel have exactly that too .....

Seriously brilliant fun & entertainment for us all Dave & thank you so much. The Stearman is one of my favourite vintage classics & what a wonderful contribution to 1000's of quiet but appreciative humans you have made.

What goes around comes around.

Back in Pre-Simviation days, we hung out at  the flightsim.com forum.  A newbie designer was having trouble with FSDS, and I would repeat the answers others gave (not that I do anything different now), thereby giving the appearance of knowledge.

Dave struggled with the heeelicopter and I goaded him with tales of messy interiors and beer cans all over the place ..  of course, that was pre-lavatory dump valve urgings days, too...

I again didn't know you were a member over here Dave.

I've always enjoyed your work (both Stearman incarnations and of course (IMO) the best FS2000 Aircraft, the Grumman Avenger - I'd wanted a decent Avenger since FS5!). Glad to here you aren't stopping... Smiley

Cheers,

Charlie

@Dave
Don't get angry about the virus warnings...
The whole virus thing is starting to become such a plague that most of the scanning definitions are put out before getting tested properly, resulting in LOADS of false positives on installers and other things that copy files from one place to another

About the plane:
I had the stearman in FS2000, and it was great. When i build my new rig i will certainly get the new one

Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and An-24RV&&&&AI flightplans and repaints can be found here
