Was this a problem in the earlier CFS's as well?
Yes, but Modders got round the problem in both CFS1 and CFS2.
FOX-FOUR's Korean War add-on for CFS2 models flyable jets like the F-86 Sabre, Panther, and hopefully soon the MiG-15.

There are jets availabe for CFS1-2, we have done a number of them, but they, as far as I have seen, are all fudges & have not solved some of the basic issues involved with jet flight.
MAW with a new series of flight algorithms (about 2,000 lines of code) replacing the imbedded MS versions should have the first subsonic & transonic jets that actually fly correctly from takeoff to maximum speed.
Accurate supersonic speeds are still beyond the capabilities of the software.
It should be remembered that CFS1-2-3 all use the same basic flight software with additional features opened up for each succeeding version. Only CFS3's visual/damage software was all new for the series

Whatever, but it does not change the fact that CFS2 can't properly support jet or rocket powered planes.
CFS-2 Me-262.
From Fox Four Korea:
"IMPORTANT CAUTION: In Korea, you have entered the very different world of jet combat, where speed and G-forces become critical factors and structural failure a real concern. It is important to understand that CFS2 was created for prop aircraft and, simply stated, the sim's performance parameters are not broad enough to cope reliably with all aspects of jet performance."

No it doesn't, but it's amazing how we get by. 8)

Hopefully our 100 or so CFS2 1% planes aid y'all in getting by.

The Lago F-16 can be used in Combat Flight Simulator 3.... but without precision guided ordnance its no fun. You should man the gun on the Memphis Belle... Come on, its the WWII era were talking about here!

Sure it would be no problem, but most of the guys are not really interested in much past Korea.
And than there are lots of people like myself who are starving for modern era combat and could care less about anything before the Gulf War...

The problem you have with CFS3 is the guys who are not all that interested are the ones that build the planes. No one is going to spend 3-6 months building something they are not real excited about.
The second problem is the guys on my side of the building process (flight, weapons, damage) are not going to waste their time trying to overcome bad flight models for planes that have no avionics, weapons delivery systems, radar or navigation capabilities.
Its much easier to do what I do & go fly Falcon 4 instead.

Got to agree with you AVHistory. The people who build the planes build them because that's what interests them.
I went for Korea, because I was seduced by a little-respected Sim called Sabre Ace, which despite poor flight models (and who gets 'em right anyway) really captured the era for me.
I might ask you guys for an aircraft that interests me, but I wouldn't blame you for not making it because it doesn't interest you in the same way it interests me.
The downloaders really have to understand that.

I think Korea is a good match with CFS3.
The early jets are pretty much like fast prop planes in the way they fought. They were low transonic in speed so we can model them OK.
We can't do a LCOS but a lot of pilots did not like them anyway & used chewing gum instead.
The avionics & weapons systems are generally WWII carry overs or improvements & our Version 4 flight software has new code for the jet engines so that should be OK.
The CFS3 Korean Theater was built befor we got the SDK we now have. Also the MAW team contains some core CFS3 Korea add-on guys so who knows what might be done.
http://www.simviation.com/cfs3_mssions2.htm
CFS3 Korean Theatre Construction Set The Korean Theatre Construction Set (KTCS) uses your existing copy of Combat Flight Simulator 3 to create a new game directory then installs the Dogpatch Crew's DPC CFS3 Korea game.
After installation, the two games operate completely independantly. The game features the new Korean Theatre and several new aircraft and vehicles developed by the Dogpatch Crew. Many of the features of Combat Flight Simulator 3 work properly with the new Korean Theatre but not all of them owing to ongoing issues with the beta version of the Microsoft CFS3 Scenery SDK.
Therefore, the Dogpatch Crew still consider the DPC CFS3 Korea game a beta release. None the less, you will enjoy flying the Korean War aircraft over authentic Korean terrain.
It's a whole new game! The Dogpatch Crew: Spencer “Green_Day” Carter Sterling “Dakota93” Dedic Daniel “Strumvogel” Leahy Dean “tenspeed” Reilly Ed “GZR_Groundhog” Wilson Tom “twintrow” Wintrow. 87MB

No, I meant I went for Korea in CFS2. That is, building things for it.
Well, actually I started with CFS1. I did that because nobody else was doing it and I wanted to fly Korea, so I was writing missions, building cockpits, adjusting dp files and begging people to build me aeroplanes.
Then I got roped into FOX-FOUR and Korean Air War for CFS2. 8)
My main point was that if you get into building things for any Flight Sim, it's usually because it's the things you personally want to use, and you do it because nobody else is doing it.
