Here in the midwestern USA we have a local delicacy called the morel mushroom. They are found in wooded areas, especially around rotting logs. People around here tend to get into a frenzy about them this time of year. A guy I work with picked more than he knew what to do with, so he gave me some. I dont hunt them myself, I dont really have time.
Heres how they look after being picked, cut in half, and rinsed off.
Next, roll in flower and a little salt, and fry in butter
not
margerine.
After that, eat them!
There are as many ways to prepare them as there are rednecks in the woods, this is how I do it. I thought you guys might enjoy learning something about a little known piece of American culture.
Note: these might grow all over the world for all I know, but I had never heard of them untill I moved to Missouri.

Why, how do you do it? ???

In my case when morning arrives I look for a good tree or cave and hang upside down.
Why?

Thanks for the link Fozzer.
Tombi, Their perfectly safe to eat, people have been doing it for thousands of years. These arent "magic" mushrooms, just regular edible fungus.

Hi Jimbo...!
Mention it to Mum, she can then look-up some recipes, and you can both pop into Tesco's, in the vegetable department, and choose from a variety of mushrooms to try them out....
Remember, it's an acquired taste...
...!
Cheers...
...!
Paul.
A try-out...!
Open cup mushrooms stuffed with garlic butter, (a mix of butter, crushed garlic, and dried parsley), and gently fried in virgin olive oil. Nice accompanyment to eggs and bacon, etc.... 8)...
