Have just loaded FS2004, and with a lot of addons saved for use in FS2002, some of these included modified AFCAD files.  Problem is, I cannot get them to "take" when using FS2004 - does anyone know if these files have to be somehow adapted, or am I out of luck?  With AFCAD open, I imported the modified files into FS9 and still no success.   ???

2002 afcads are a different format that in 2004.

2002=text
2004=bgl

the 2002 afcads won't work in 2004

" . . .  am I out of luck?"
Yes.
FS2k2 AFCAD files are *.txt and FS9 (FS2004) are *.bgl

Apples and oranges. Use Lee Swordy's FREE AF2v.221 to edit FS9 AFCADs. The prgram works the same but outputs *.bgl files

P.S. Always search the Web first as the AF2_file.bgl you want has probably been done already. Edited AF2 files are placed in your Addon Scenery Folder and automatically load when the sim is restarted.

Thanks for the info, I'll download the Af2 for future use, have found many of these already created for FS2004 as you mentioned here.
