I'll post a clue that you can't miss in a little while...

"Names" you say ?...
Boeing B-52 "Stratofortress" = building referral ...(castle type)
Lockheed U-2 = feminine referral ...The prototype was named Angel(The plane's nickname is the "Dragon Lady.")
General Dynamics F-16 "Fighting Falcon" = Bird referral...(bird of prey)
.....no apparent pattern yet, to the claim of odd one out by name association ?
As I see it B-52 and F-16 are numerical designations and not the official names.....the U-2 has no official name as far as my research has uncovered, and only bears that numerical designation........
If the numerical designation is being thought of to represent the name, then .....
"B" for Bomber
"F" for Fighter
"U" for Utility ....... more like Undercover CIA machine since it was a high altitude photo recon A/C ?

The F-16 is the only one without a number 2 in the model number.

Right, the F-16 was originally built by General Dynamics, which was bought out by, or merged with Lockheed Martin.

I was referring to the U-2 as being built by Lockheed, and not Lockheed/Martin........ 8)

It's a
beautiful day
for flying so I'll leave you trying to guess. Then you can take some
pride
in your achievments. I don't know why
in the name of love
You haven't got it yet, but the world works in
mysterious ways.
There are some clues for you, after all,
sometimes you can't make it on your own.

So all this had nothing at all to do with the Aircraft Name.....it was to do with some uninventive musicians who adopted the name of an aircraft to be used to represent themselves ?......
............Now I feel a fool for wasting my time on something much less interesting than aviation....
