Wow what a Sim this is, I cant belive the way this Sub game places you into the most awsome sea environment ive seen on my PC. its worth the Cash. Takes a bit of time to know the ins and outs of being a Sub captain, but once you have that worked out....Kapow!! your in WW2 sinkin shipping lanes and evaiding destroyers in classic U Boats.

the external roam view is somthing to see to belive, you can go for a good look at any bit of scenery, Ships, Towns, you name it. And just wait till one of your torpedos bounces Off of a target with out exploading, its such a destraught feeling due to the fact that you put so much into sneeking up to the target for a good hit solution, just to get a missfire and give your possition away.

Yep this is as good as flying the skys. Divin the depths. Five Smiles  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Aren't you running a laptop? If your vid card is in the class of a Mobility 9700, it should be enough for SH3.

It'll run it fine.

Isn't Silent Hunter compatable with Destroyer Command? And if so, when is Destroyer Command III coming out to start sinking those subs? Grin

And its Multi player, No need to worrie about not finding anything to attack, Soon enough the S*** hits the prop. Some plane you never saw sees you, and a convoy over the Horizon just happens to bee heding your way, flanked by a Naval barrage of death to you.

Thats when you have sweaty fingers and a raceing pulse as you skirt crush depth so the fleet above you passes over. Next you hear Pings from above. and your crew men talk in hushed whispers. The Hull creaks under tremendous presure and you inch away on Silent running. the sonar reports ships at 10 kilometers and you surface to periscope to survay the view.

As you sweep A loud ping sounds, its a warship that comes steaming from know where fast to starbord ! ! !

Tension mounts, Do you.........

A. Dive Dive Dive, and risk the depth charge attack.

B. Dive and turn hard to starbord, ready aft torpedos.

C. say a prayer and crap your pants.

D. Surface the boat , Prepare deck gun and blast the Bridge of the ship before Diving to crush level and Silent running away.

Grin

The game sounds exciting. I'm a retired navyman myself who spent eleven years in the  US Sub Force mostly in diesel electric subs. That's why I don't watch submarine movies. Radar contact at 400 feet? All ahead full, rig for silent running? By the way, Is this game a strategy game ? I hope not.

Well, I just had to go out and get it and all I can say is WOW!!

Very intense. Still am having a little trouble figuring the best way to manuever for position.

Very helpful going through all of the Naval Academy first. Great videos in there too.  Have only done 5 missions and each time I learn something new.

Money well spent in my opinion.

Ok, 9 patrols later and I am still stunned by the beauty of this game. Have gotten much better at intercepting enemy vessels reported by my sonarman.

Have found at a couple of subsim sites some great tools and addons. Downloaded the 1.2 patch that fixed many anomalies in the game.

**Special note on the 1.2 patch......BEFORE installing any addons or mods to the game, install the 1.2 patch FIRST. Then do your addons. If you have already added some mods or addons, then you need to uninstall the game/reinstall and then patch the game with 1.2.  THEN you can add your stuff again. The 1.2 patch needs a "CLEAN" install of SHIII to install.****

Just upgraded my sub too but haven't taken her out yet to see what she can do.
