............Hi ....is there any thing special about modyfying the bit maps contained in .cab files? I'd like to change the colour of the GPS 500 to something other than the mid grey it now is. I can copy the .bmp files and change them in P/Shop but it does't seem to want to allow me to put the modified files in the .cab...is there some way to do this please?....thanks in anticipation...commoner Smiley

lol, you got to give us time to scratch or heads..........or whatever, for these tougher questions!!   Grin

I don't know for sure as I don't mess around with that kind of stuff.................BUT I did read somewhere, and here is where the head scratching comes in, that you would need a little program that builds those .cab files. Any you reworked would probably have to be repackaged with all the others in there too........I THINK!!

Let me check and see if I can find the forum and post on this subject. Back later!!

....I can get the file out and rework it but it won't then go back in...........you seem to know that eh?

lmao, I don't know what I know anymore. I KNOW I am breathing........beyond that it's guesswork!!   Grin

Yea, I am pretty sure you have to rebuild the .cab files. I am guessing that even if you work on just one file in that .cab file, ALL those files will have to be extracted and then all of them, INCLUDING the one you reworked, BUILT into a new .CAB file with a Cab file packaging utility.

And Guess What???!!!!   I found that post I was talking about.

Here is the one that was mentioned in the post:

1]  This one was highly praised by panel designers at SOH:

CabPack 1.4

Supposedly Microsoft has one too at their Flight Sim Insider website too.

Good luck and have fun!

Finally found the one at Microsoft.

http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulator/fs2004_downloads_sdk.asp#cabdir

It's down at bottom of page....called CABDIR SDK....the file is cabdir_sdk_setup.exe

Again, how you do what you want to do is guesswork on my part. But I believe those .cab files have a special syntax or something, therefore you can't just put a file back in a cab file.

I am sure someone knows more about that then me!!

Good luck on your project.
