Well i thought i might give this painting thing a try and am trying to follow the tutorial on Gary Smiths website.  The link didn't work to get the blank texture so i downloaded a paintkit for the Default 73-4 on SimV.  I loaded it up in Pixia, and got this.

??? ??? ??? Embarrassed

Certanly doesn't look like the picture he had.

I am completly new to this, what am i doing wrong?

Looks like you need to convert the textures. Get dxtbmp or imagetool.

Dxtbmp here: http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/download/dxtbmpx.EXE

open your file (load extended image)

then save as 24bit image

should then be able to open in any graphics program.

remember to do the reverse when your done

open regular image, and save as extended in either dxt3 (compressed) or 32Bit (uncompressed)

any probs, just post back or PM me.

Thanks to your wonderful words of wisdom igorski, i was able to make something.  It dosn't look flash at all (it's only my first try).  The tail is mean't to be the same bluey green color as the back of the fuselage.  I also needed to paint over all of the detail with the bluey green at the back.

...

In his tutorial Gary uses "Paint Shop Pro 5" he says it's available for free.  Where?

Thanks for ur help Cheesy Grin

EDIT: i found a site to download it from 109MB:o  Never mind PSP Tongue.  Is there any other good free programs around ???

I found it and it's like 109MB so that's WAY too big for a dial up connection Shocked  Are there any other good ones around that you can edit with.

Not sure, cant you just leave it on over night? Is that Pixia not any good? Otherwise you can always resort to Ms paint!  Tongue try googling "free graphics editor" or something like that.

Wow man that is good as far as M$ Paint goes! I used that to repaint some work for CFS1, and I 'managed' ok, and I used it for panels in FS2002. Bot only that, I have a 3.6kbps dial up as well, so I'm stuck with MS Paint. Where was the d/l?

Hi Chris,

Are you running your PC in 800x600 resolution?

If so, up the res to 1024x768... The Text button (Little square with an A on it) is located towards the right of the window a few buttons down from the Fill button. Otherwise you can also access the Text box by pressing Ctrl+J Smiley

Stratobat

Well done Chris. Even the best & most expensive graphics editor is useless if you don't know how to use it. Pixia has all the features you should need to repaint aircraft textures. It just takes time. You might find this easier to understand than the the other tute. http://www.calclassic.com/repaint.htm

Everyone has their own way of doing these things. I'm sure you will too once you understand the basics.

Hi Chris,

Check in your main Pixia folder and see if there's a Help folder. If the Help folder isn't there, or if there's no contents in it, then you need to download the Help file from Pixia's website Smiley
