I have accidentally checked the box that makes .zip files automatically open, rather than save, when I click to download them.

Is there a way of undoing this?

Yes, but the method differs depending on your OS and browser.

I don't use IE much but in XP:

Open explorer/tools/folder options/file types.

Scroll down to .zip filetype and click on advanced.

Uncheck (or check, whatever is the opposite of what you have now) the box that says "Confirm open after download".  Close the box.  You may have to reboot before the change takes effect.

You could also right-click on the link & select "Save Target As".

Some websites (eg. AVSIM, Mike Stone's Hanger) don't let you do this. They forward you to the download.
