Hey Folks... Grin

Does any one remember ever seeing a fix for the "100 Plane Limit" in CFS2? I thought I had read about it here at Simviation once.

BlackBird686 yes their is a program that allows you to place over 1,000 place in your CFS2 folder. It uses different Hangars to accomplish it. Just make sure you have the stock planes in your new folders. Other wise CFS2 will not work.

It gives you up to seventeen Hangars with the ability to install up to 70 addon planes in each Hangar. You have to remember that you have subtract the stock planes in each Hangar.

In other words with each new Hangar you need to install the stock planes plus the new addons.

Its here:http://fly.to/mwgfx
Go to the CFS2 section/Utilities and it will be there.

Its call  ACMan enjoy
If you have any problem installing it . Come back to us and I will show you how to install it.

You could also create a Hangar subfolder in CFS2\Aircraft & drag aircarft you're not using into it. Providing you don't move the defaults or aircraft used in 3rd party missions this should work fine. I find the best method is a duplicate install of CFS2. Simply rename the CFS2 root directory folder to any other name, then insert the CD & install in the usual way. You can have as many "duplicates" as you wish & all will run completely independently. For example: you could have CFS2 WWI, CFS2 Europe, CFS2 Pacific, CFS2 Jets, CFS2 Korea, anything you like.

PS. Some people have told me they've never suffered from an aircraft limit in CFS2. I can only assume they didn't install the Mission Builder, if that's possible.

BlackBird686 Hangar Idea works very well. The only problem with it, its that you need a lot Hard drive space to many different CFS2 install. With ACMan allows you to use all your planes in just one install. you can the same MB. All you need to do is change the Hangar and will have a new set of planes.

You use what ever method you like or suites you the best.

I do recommend that the download ACMan anyway just in case you would like to use it some time in the future.

I also reccommend that you download the ship Manager as well.

Remember there is also a limit of ships as well. You can manage them with the ship manager at:

http://www.simviation.com/lair/cfs2shipyard.htm

you can mange them by Theater if you want.

Enjoy

Thanks for the help!!! Grin
I will for sure check into the ACMan program and I never thought of installing CFS2 twice under a different name, that really sweetens things up just a bit. Hard drive space isn't a problem for me but I like the idea of using one MB for all of my planes. Thanks again for the advise and help.

AcMan should be fine as it's one of Martin Wright's utilities. Same goes for ShipMan which you might notice is posted exclusively at CG's Shipyard which is part of the Fox Four site. I prefer the duplicate install myself as this means you can have a completely different CFS2 for each theatre.

Hey, All..

Just finished up loading the AcMan utility from Martin Wright and it works great, exactly what I was looking for at this point. If my Mission and Campaign development get much larger in size though, I may need to do a second install, as Hagar mentioned.

Thanks again for all the feedback!!!

cheers~

I am currently running about 300 planes in CFS2 without any hangar solution! I had the 100 planes limit back in the old days with win98. Now: ANY NUMBER of aircraft available with win xp (any sp) and 1 Gig of ram, on several machines, some with less than 1 G ram. Just the mission editor refuses to run when you've got more than about 60 aircraft installed.

Interesting. I always suspected the limit was caused by the Mission Builder rather than CFS2 itself as neither CFS1 nor any version of FS has this problem. (I don't know if anyone has sufficient aircraft installed to CFS3 to find out if it affects that.) I can't think why it wouldn't affect your CFS2. I don't think WinXP has anything to do with it.

Hagar Cfs2 in reality dose not have a strick limit on how many planes you can install in it. Well it does but have limit in the number planes you can install in it before it stops from working.

The number is quite large for what have read in other forums.

Its about 800 to 1000 depending on the size of the on planes folders.

The reason you should not place more than 100 planes in each Hangar its because the Mission Builder will stop  working after that.

For the most  part you should only place no more than 85  planes in each Folder before you start testing the Mission Builder to see if its still working.

The maximum is from 95 to 100 before your Mission Builder will stop working.

Now if you do not care for Building Missions. Install as many planes as you want. The limit is quite high. Just enjoy it.

PS, I found a way around this limitation on the Mission Builder a while back.

Install the Cfo program.
1.http://www.cfsops.com/Modules/cfo_weather/Cfo_Weather_75.htm

Run the CFS2 program
1.Go to Free flight.
2.Press Atl
3.Look for on the top of the sreen for Cfo_Weather
4.Scroll down to Go to
5.click on Mission Builder

Through this route for reason unknown to me it accepts higher numbers of planes than through the conventional way. The exact number it will accept I do not know?

The only draw back its you can only test your Missions by starting the games itself.

But it works.

Try it out Guys, and you will see.

If you try it
please tell me if it worked for you.

I can't agree with you there James. There is usually a limit to how many aircraft you can install to CFS2 before getting error messages & unexplained problems in Free Flight, QC & Missions/Campaigns. The actual limit seems to vary depending on which 3rd party aircraft you have installed & problems can appear when the total, including defaults, is anywhere between 80 & 100 or over. (This is why it's often referred to as the CFS2 100-plane limit.) While I've always suspected that the limit is caused by the onboard Mission Builder it affects CFS2 itself & certainly exists. The best way over it is a duplicate install of CFS2.

Cfo_Weather is an excellent addition to CFS2 but you have to run the sim in order to use it.

Hagar it works . I just test it with over 150 planes in it, and it worked like a charm. Maybe you did not understand my instructions but Hagar and all other who are reading this post you can try it.

This will open your possibilities ten fold. If you get the corrupt messege reminder when you go to quick combat just overide it with a click with your mouse.

I will give you a better explanation tonight.

Best regard

Whether it works satisfactorily is debatable. It might be possible to select & fly the aircraft in Free Flight by ignoring the error messages but the weapons might not work & I have no idea how it would affect a campaign. By far the best method is to have a separate install of CFS2 for each theatre. This is the method we have always recommended for people installing our Fox Four campaigns & 1,000s of satisfied users have had very few problems after taking our advice. This way you only need to install files appropriate to one theatre (for example; CFS2 Korea with the Korea scenery & aircraft) which reduces the risk of problems. It's also possible to create a shortcut to use the Mission Builder in each version of CFS2 if you wish.

Sorry Hagar I do not agree with you this time as well. One of the things that I like about CFS2 is that there are many ways of trying different methods to get to the same result.

Some thing tells me that you did not even tried it to see if it works.

Well I have for a long time and it does work. Iam not saying your method does not works as well. But there are other methods. Its up to you and whats the best method you rather use.

Multiple installs may take a lot of hard drive space. It up to and your needs. If you do not have the Hard drive space you might use the Ac Man utility instead.

Hagar your a swell of a guy. Your have helped a lot of people including my self. Thank you

Don't get me wrong James. I'm all for trying new things. I've not tried Cfo_Weather in CFS2 but I'm told it's very good like all Bill Potvin's utilities. I don't know what difference that would make to the aircraft limit. I would have thought that Bill would have mentioned it in his instructions if it fixed that problem. http://www.cfsops.com/Modules/cfo_weather/Cfo_Weather_75.htm
Ignoring error messages does not make the error go away. I do know how many people have been mailing me since soon after CFS2 was released about problems caused by having too many aircraft installed. A lot of people far more knowledgeable than me have done their best to find a way round this problem. There are several ingenious methods but every one involves having less aircraft installed. This makes the whole thing less complicated & is what I would recommend. Having too many addons installed to CFS2 is bound to cause problems sooner or later.

For me (300 planes) it works like this: Error message appears before free flight, I click it away, nothing happens. THEN click on "fly" again, and NO error message! It took me two reinstalls before I found this out. Never had trouble with weapons, no matter what aircraft. I still think that it may have something to do with the OS. It's M$ after all..

If it works for you then by all means use it. I'm simply pointing out the methods I recommend & which the majority of people have found the best. This is the reason I've had very few problems with CFS2 since it was first released. I don't see how the OS could affect this in any way. I'm sure the limit is caused by the Mission Builder, not the sim itself. Even if the aircraft are not affected in Free Flight & QC the Mission Builder will be unsusable once those error messages appear.

I can't imagine why anyone would want anywhere near 300 aircraft installed to CFS2 or any other M$ sim. You can't possibly use them all so removing the ones you don't need makes sense to me. Use MW's AcMan to organise them into different theatres if you wish but get rid of them. Even if those error messages mean nothing, as you seem to think, the fact they appear at all is an unnecessary annoyance. The more addons you have installed the more difficult it is to troubleshoot if anything does go wrong. I rest my case. Wink

I agree Hagar, And not only is trouble shooting a problem with all those planes but if you are getting that annoying little message before you fly, going into campaigns or the mission builder will often lead to a crash to desktop. Hence forget flying in anything but free flight or quick combat. Sort of defeats the whole purpose of the sim. Roll Eyes
Having less than 100 planes in the A/C folder resolves the issue all together.

"click** All Together Now"

Blackbird686 I agree with and disagree with at the same time. I my self do not like to have more that 100 planes in one Hangar at the same time.

What I use is the ACman utility that allows you to use up to 18 different Hangars. This utility enables you to  use more than one thousand planes in the program.

I have more than 200 planes one of the my other installs and have not had any ill effect to the program with exception that my MB did not work.

I was able to fix that with Cfo weather utility. Do I recommend it, no!
Can it be done, Yes!

Some times the best discoveries are done by trail and errors.

Some times you think you know a lot and in reality you know way to little.

Some times you to know very little and find you later you knew more than what you thought.

Thanks to all

You are all great

P.S. Having to many planes in one Hangar will effect your MB and that will effect whats to me the most feature of this game.
