Doug, maybe you could arrange a system that means your posts are counted down from there current number

While I do agree post count doesn't matter, why is everyone so against post numbers? Whats the difference if someone has 10,000 posts and half of them came from the Cafe? It's not like it's doing anyone any harm.

Seems people get so wrapped up ''post count doesn't matter'' that they forget that post count really doesn't matter. Does anyone know what I mean?

??? Confusing ain't it? Cheesy I know what you mean Ben. As one of the original members of this forum & the one before that, I've often wished there was no star rating system or record of post count at all. That way every member could be judged for what they are & not by the number of times they posted something, however useful, witty or just plain stupid most of their contributions might be. Most forums seem to have this feature which cannot be disabled so it seems we're stuck with it. Roll Eyes

I could never understand why anyone would take this so seriously myself. It seems very immature & the old familiar schoolboy boast of mine's bigger than yours. Tongue Cheesy

I set up a yabb forum at work and, you know, the code is not that hugely complicated.  If Pete was up for a little bit of coding he could turn off post counts.

Edit:  Post counts could be turned off altogether or tailored in some fashion.

OTOH - I've set up the FSDS forum so anyone with over 500 posts is a "lunatic"

But getting there is the rub ... if you think the mods here have their fingers on the "delete" button, you ain't seen the mods there!

Pete,

It's an internal forum -- not available outside the company.  Actually it's just to keep track of projects that a small group of us are working on.  I installed it on Windows 2000 with Apache and had to fix a bug in the way email is sent on Windows (carriage return line feed problem).

I added a couple of web pages and perl scripts that produce custom status reports.  Essentially, you pick a date and select which forums you're interested in and it shows you all the posts in those forums since that date.  They work well on my little web site but SimV has a lot more activity so it would be hard to say how they might scale up.

I haven't actually looked at post counts but it doesn't look like it would be a big job.  I'll take a look on Monday to see what would be involved.

Just leave it as it is IMO.

If we didn't have post counts, where would all the drinks be bought from? Its nice to see people becoming residents, or reaching the 15,000th post (no names mentioned  Wink )....

If the post count doesn't matter, why would anyone bother taking it off?  lol  (You're right, it doesn't matter, but it had to be asked.)

Oh look, this got me one more.   Grin

Pete,

I looked at the yabb code today and customizing the post count looks pretty straight forward.

Now, I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other regarding post count but if the need arises to do something with it or with anything else you may have in mind send me an email.
