Supercruise is the ability to reach
and
maintain a supersonic cruising speed without using afterburners. Sorry Concorde fans, it can't do it.
Pilot for a major US airline certified in the: EMB-120, CRJ, 727, 737, 757, 767, and A-320 and military, T-38, C-130, C-141, and C-5 along with misc. other small airplanes. Any questions, I'm here for you.

Saratoga, if you are thinking of infering that Concorde wasn't capable of supercruise, then please, take a trip
HERE
, then come back and tell us all how it managed flying for hours in afterburner, without towing a fuel trailer behind itself.......?
Further info is available
HERE
.....I was lucky enough to find this online. I have a copy of the same book, brought back from Heathrow, back in the early 80's by my mother.

Well I shall rephrase. But only after this: And I quote:
Quote:
...exceed Mach 1 in level flight without afterburners...able to cruise at supersonic speeds without the use of afterburners...
The Concorde cannot reach it's Mach 2 cruising speed without afterburners, period. Due to the huge drag curve between Mach 1 and Mach 1.4, it's impossible (well a dive perhaps...). It CAN supercruise at like Mach 1.05 and it can easily cruise at Mach 2, just it can't reach 2 without the burners.

typhoon does mach 1.3 without burners. Raptor does 1.5 without them. Both have a top speed of about Mach 2 though.

But more economical and with slightly better avionics and defensive aids. and the pilot has to dress up to look like and alien...

Poppycock! Just lame excuses for not being able to develop a fighter better than one made 50 years ago.
