Oh well, it was a good fighter but is becoming obsolete. It can't even supercruise, as is the new hot trait for fighters.
AMD Athlon 64 3700+&&GeForce FX5200 256Mb&&1GB DDR400 DC&&Seagate 500Gb SATA-300 HDD&&Windows XP Professional X64 Edition
&&&&That's right, I'm now using an AMD! I decided to give them another try and they kicked the pants off of my P4 3.4!

They are still planning on updating the existing F-16s so they still have some life left in them at least. In the article it said those F-16s had the helmet mounted cueing system, how many other aircraft use this? I didn't think the US was using it yet. I knew that MiG-29 pilots can use it and some others, I just didn't know who.

Yeah Supercruise is cruising at supersonic speeds without the afterburners, as stated by some other members. The F/A-22 will use supercruise... 8)

It was the EE Lightning that first used it. Then it was given to the civilian market, and now finally military folk are going "hey, that could be useful." Which is why they are harping on about it as if they invented it.

Yep, just because the last aircraft has been delivered doesn't mean the aircraft isn't going to continue for several years yet...
On the subject of Helmet mounted sights, one aircraft that does use it operationally is the RAF's Sepecat Jaguar GR3a, which is in the process of being retired. This has been using the system with Sidewinders since 2000. The Eurofighter Typhoon will also uses the system, and the first operational Sqn is formed next year using AMRAAM and ASRAMM for air defence.

Well I guess we need to phase it out, need to keep up with the terrorists you know, they just got a set of hangliders equiped with 2 3mm BB guns with a maximum range of 100 feet.
Yeah I do like the F-16 looks so damn sleek.

..and hence its ability to supercruise.
Having said that, when it comes into service as the F/A-22 we're probably going to see it with at least one pair of underwing pylons... The Typhoon will be the same. I imagine if the F/A-18 Super Hornet could too if the pylons were removed...
