You know do love the new Mustang, but I'd still rather have a GM car (thought not a vette
).

Looks like a nice car Chomp, but to be honest I'm not really liking the C6 vette-it looks to much like a Dodge Viper for my tastes. I think I like the C5 better, but since the C6 is new-maybe it will grow on me.

I don't like the retractable headlights on the C5... I've heard they are costly to maintain...

Ok then, what are the specs on the Z06? You don't know do you? Because its not out yet. So shut up, and accept it that the pony will be the fastest(even if it beats GM for 15 minutes)

I have heard the same thing about their lights-but I still like the design. But, to be honest-I'm not really a Corvette guy although I can appreciate them.

As a matter of fact, the new Z06 has a 7.0L V8 engine rated at 500hp @ 6200rpm and 475ft/lbs of torque @ 4800rpm. It is true that its not out yet, but I believe the GT500 was just debuted at a car show-which means it won't take to the streets until next year, just like the new Z06.
Plus, the reason they are getting that high of a horsepower rating out of such a small engine and can still run it on pump gas is because it is supercharged. That means that it will have a very large peak of power in the high end, while the Z06 motor (although it does peak at high rpm) will have a lot more midrange power because it has a lot larger displacement.

here are some 2006 z06 stats for you (btw, personally i would rather own the cobra)
The engine is the LS7 7.0-liter/427-cubic-inch Gen IV making 500 bhp @ 6200 rpm and 475 lb-ft @ 4800 rpm with a 7000 rpm redline. the car weighs 3130 lbs and with its 6-speed (connected to an LSD) it can go 0-60mph in 3.9 and complete the quarter in 11.9 sec @ 120 mph. although the new engine is a 427 it is still of a small block design. the differences between the LS2 and the LS7 are: different cylinder block casting, wider bores, front cover, oil pan, exhaust manifolds and cylinder heads. the engine has 11.0:1 compression with a cam that has .591 inch lift and 104.8 mm bores with 101.6 mm of stroke. the car has 18 x 9.5-inch wheels in the front (with 275/35ZR18 goodyear rubber) and out back it has 19 x 12's (with 325/30ZR19 rubber).

Fine just make me look like an ass! Does the Z06 look any better than the C6?
It amazes me that the Pony gets 50hp less with 1.6L less. More efficient engine+supercharger? Not as efficient as my new patented Urine-Powered car though!!!

you decide:
in pictures it looks "ricey-er" (for a vette), but in person it looks awsome
i must say i love the rims on the z06, but give me the new svt in black over the vette!

yah you can get more power out of a smaller engine with forced induction. look at the asian rally cars. the STi and the Evo both get +300 hp out of 2/2.4L 4 bangers

Why did GM go with following the asians? They suck!

Wht do you say they are following them. They are putting 7.0L V8 in the Z06 and those smaller cars have always had 4-cylinders-even the smaller cars back in the old days did.

I meant the looks (in response to "it looks a bit ricey")
The Vette will always be better than "sakie suckers"

I actually think the new vette looks more like the new Viper than anything else. The lights, "mouth" grill thing, and hood all have lines that look like a viper to me. I think this is especially true for the Z06 with its small air intake on the hood. Anyway, I sure see a resemblence.

Yes, sake is great stuff. Most westerners don't realize that there are MANY different kinds. Very regional...... like micro-breweries for beer. In Japan, just asking for "sake" is like going to France and just asking for "wine".
Yes Dave... I make sake tokkuri and guinomi (cups) along with numerous other Japanese type pottery forms. Here's an image of a sake set of mine for warm sake (poor quality scan, unfortunatley) :
If you haven't tried it.... on a nice hot July day pour some sake over some ice chips. I learned that one when a group of Japanese potters were visiting my studio a few years ago.
best,

John, that is totally awesome! I always wondered if you did Sake potting and that is some real nice work!!
What are you running? 350CI's of potting clay? What RPM's are you peaking at when the mold is ready to fold?
Love the Texture and color. Is that 1986 Corvette Yellow, mixed with 1 pint of pastel brown # 6. That is what my headers looked like when I first turned my 327ci over.
Did you bring that model to Japan when you were there recently?

Maybe the designers at GM were having a little bit of sake when they designed the Vette. Or maybe they decided that it would be nice if their cars all looked the same and had the same engine?

All the major compaines do that, its not like its a GM thing. In fact, the first company to start making all their cars look the same and use the same engine was Ford.

As for the 'Vette, it's a shame they spent millions redesigning the thing then put a Camaro hoodscoop on it...

You know, I hadn't noticed it-but your right, the front end of the scope does have the same (or very simular) tapering to the scope that was on the 4th generation Camaro SS. Of course, I wouldn't call it a "hood scope" though-if you look closely, it actually looks like the Corvette has the same hood if it has the scope or not. The scope is actually a part of the front clip, which to my knowledge is a fairly unique feature (at least to American cars). But, I do agree that it looks like a Camaro scope-especially the way the Camaro had to points that start out in front of the scope and come to the edges of it.
But-to be fair, whats wrong with Camaro's (for some reason, I thought you had like a 1999 V6 Camaro)? Thats the best car GM ever made!
