...when they have such incredible views like these?!?!!?!?

...

Fleet Week in San Francisco must be their favorite spot to perform...too bad they didn't come here last year.

Although I suppose it can suck when the marine layer sets in over the coast like this...means a limited performance if one at all... Tongue

Watch the scenery, proceed to colide mid-air, then die.
Or concentrate, fly straight and true, and live to fly again.
I'd choose the latter.

Nice shots by the way.

That's your opinion.
I've seen them, I've seen the T-Birds, I've seen many groups: not just military.
And the best (my opinion) has got to be the Snowbirds.

I perfer to watch the big jets do solo acts,
and the smaller more agile birdies to the big formation stuff.

I thnk the Red arrows or the Frecce Tricolore are the best.

That first shot is spectacular.

that first shot is awesome.
Blue are my favorite demo team.

Granted I've only seen the Blue, T-Birds and Snowbirds. I didn't like the Snowbirds because it's like watching ballet Roll Eyes

I want speed and sound as well  8)

If there is an airshow with in 2 states of me I'm there&&...&&&&

Well if you want to get technical, they are still the best of the best regardless of opinion.  If you are talking about US Navy pilots, the Blue Angels are, without a doubt, the top pilots.

Remember, the Blue Angels are not an aerobatic team.  They are out to serve a specific purpose...to demostrate and recruit.

Anyway, I think this post went to far in the serious direction...it wasn't meant to be.  I was just posting pictures and tried to come up with a silly, yet kinda clever way to grab your attention...

Hooraa for the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team (Red Arrows), BAE SYSTEMS favourite advertising tool.

On a more sombre note, Flt Lt Matt Jarvis (an RAF Harrier mate), who joined the Reds in 2004, but was diagnosed with terminal cancer at the start of the '04 airshow season, passed away on Sunday. He was only just 30...

My personal favourites are in fact the Russian Knights and the swifts. Also the armee de l'air. The precision with which they fly...  Shocked

Back in the early 90's my old boss was "Red 10" (the "manager" of the Red Arrows). One of his more interesting jobs involved sitting in the back of the Russian Knights leaders aircraft during all the displays to act as air/ground comms and a safety man, as they were somehat of a unknown entitt back then... Intill you have watched the Red Arrows display at Fowey you have never seen an aerobatic display. After all, how many of you have stood with both feet firmly on terra firma watching an air display go on below you? Grin

I have. Back in the days of the old Shepway air display at Folkstone. Unfortunately the 3 aircraft I remember most vividly there have all since crashed... Sad

Sorry to hear that Charlie.

As for the "best of the best", this usually depends where you hail from. People naturally think their national team is the best. The point is that they have to be good to represent their country or service.

I've seen most of them in my time, except for the Blue Angels or the Snowbirds. I find the slower, more agile types the best for a good display. One of the finest private displays I've ever seen was with the piston-engined Yak 50 & 52 & I imagine keeping close formation in these types can be far more difficult than in a military jet. The big fast jets are impressive but often disappear from sight for a considerable part of the display which spoils it for me. I've never done any formation flying but understand that the leader is the only one looking where he's going. The others are too busy formating on him to admire the scenery. This was one reason the RAF lost out in the early stages of the BoB as they never saw the enemy coming.

Yah thats true about the yaks. There was a display this year at last year at Dux with about 9 or 10 yaks I think which was the best I had ever seen.

You have to include my comment that immediately follows that statement to get what I'm saying...that from the US Navy's standpoint, they are considered the best and top Navy pilots.

But yeah, when you single out just that part of it, I sound like a dumbass...oh well...
It's a case of poor wording...

Point  taken Smiley in that from your standpoint they are but hey it was merely a misunderstanding.

And on the yak team. I have seen the ones you're talking about Charlie but the one I saw at Dux was much bigger and not proffessional.

P.S. YOu lucky person getting thrown around in one of them 8)

I remember the good old days of the mid/late 90's when they did the air racing in the Yaks. That was a laugh! 9 aircraft, all Yak 52s trying to go round each other... Grin
