Trying to check out some online flying w/FS9... The Zone not working out too well, as when I select a FS2004 lobby I get an error message saying I need FS2002 installed. Did see an IP game there, so I decided to try to connect directly.  Yes, I have FSHostSpy; yes, I know how to use cmd prompt to find my IP... yes, yes, yes, I know all that, but-
But when I start FS9 and go to the Multiplayer page, the "MP Settings" page is available, but "Open MP Session" is greyed-out. Is this related to Mozilla, or...? Microsoft will no doubt have no idea what the hell I'm talking about, but I just know at least  one  of y'all out there has seen this... anybody?

For the Zone, use IE. But you are going to find that for FS9 the Zone isn't really the place to be flying.

Download FSHost Spy. You can see all the FS2k2 and FS9 servers up and running. You can join any of those by using the IP displayed and firing up your FS9 Multiplayer.

Has all kinds of valuable info of what is going on in that server, who's there, what they are flying and where they are. Great.........free utility. Must have as far as I am concerned. Google it and you will see. Good Luck!

Thanks, I just got it. But my problem is: "Open Multiplayer Session" is greyed-out in my install of FS9.

hmmm, silly question, but did you do a full-installation, or just the standard installation?

That seems like something isn't set right in the code of the program...very unusual, especially since you're the only one I know of who's had that specific problem.

You are running the newest version of direct x right?

Is this problem happening when you try to connect via the main startup screen?  If so have you tried doing a alt+F-M-C to connect to multiplayer while the sim is already running a previously loaded flight?

I'll see if I can come up with some more silly questions...

Pretty sure I did a full install... and don't worry about silly questions; as long as you don't ask me if I know how to find my IP or if my computer's on, there's no silly question here. Thanx.

Just noticed i hadn't got back to you on this...
First of all, yes, I've updated DirectX. All good there.
If I try to go into Multiplayer when a flight is up and running, the Multiplayer option in the drop-down box is greyed-out.
I am behind a router, but I've tried setting things up as required with a router, with no success. I may need to dig deeper, but can't find a proper walk-thru for port forwarding, etc. for this (Linksys) router... and this weirdness with the Multiplayer page and drop-down has me thinking the router is not the trouble. I really hope I don't have to reinstall FS9... groan...

Have you checked out the PORT FORWARD link in the router tute ...... theres detailed instructions for loads of  Linksys routers.

However ...... I think the problem is with FS9 itself but I'm demned if I know what.

I'm going to do an experiment and turn my router off and see if the multiplay option greys out....... I'll let you know.

Turned the router off ......... all multiplayer options are still active without an internet connection ....... obviously they just can't connect.

I can say with 90% certainty its your installation of FS9 ..... Looks like your going to have to reinstall or find some way of fixing your installation.  Cry Cry Cry

(Shudder)- you're probably right. Could be a problem, as I didn't get the no-cd patch in time, and the 4th disc may be damaged (couldn't dupe it a while ago when I tried to make a backup).
