Back in 1996 my brother & I planned our grand adventure. He wanted to visit two friends in the US of A, one in North Carolina & the other in NYC. I needed a break & asked if he wanted some company. He jumped at the idea & we decided to combine this with a fortnight's holiday. (For our US viewers - a fortnight is two weeks. Don't ask why cos I don't know. ???)
The idea was to fly to Florida & stay there for a few days to soak up the sun & do a few things we'd never done on previous visits. We then planned on driving up the Eastern seaboard of the USA, diverting inland to Greensboro, NC, to visit one of his friends. Then on via Washington DC & NYC before flying home from there. This was a tad ambitious as both of us tend to get lost easily. ??? This does have the advantage of making things interesting. Here's a few memories of our grand mystery tour. Cheesy

This is our car. A big old gas-guzzling Oldsmobile. Perfect for the trip. We had to pay a little extra to take it out of the state.
...

As we knew exactly what we wanted to see we decided to do Disney all in one day. By a bit of luck we purchased cut-price tickets for all the attractions from the nice lady in the booth across the road from our hotel. They looked a bit dodgy but much to our surprise they worked with no problems. Wink
This is one of the attractions I wanted to try. I had to bully my brother into accompanying me as he's not quite so adventurous as me. I'm not sure he enjoyed the experience.
...

Here's the big ball in the Epcot Center.
...

We both wanted a trip on an air-boat, Never done that before so ......
...
That's my brother - he's the slim one with our driver or pilot whatever they call him. Wink

The next day we set out for Kermit Weeks' Fantasy of Flight. Very interesting. It had recently been opened & there's much more there now.
...

All too soon our 4 days was up so we set out for Savannah, Georgia where we planned on spending the night. We called into Daytona on the way. This is the famous Daytona Beach.
...

To be continued .................

Thanks for the comments chaps. It was Sarah's topic on holidays in the US that gave me the idea. Thought I'd show what's possible without going on one of those dreadful package tours. We planned all this out in one evening with the aid of an old Rand McNally map of the US. After that it was a matter of chance. It all worked out splendidly & was probably the best holiday I've ever had. ;)

This is Daytona Beach. You can drive from one end to the other but I don't advise it as the car gets full up with fine sand. This is where the speed records were broken in the old days.

Nice shots Doug. If you want cars on the beach come to weston super-mare. Nothing but a big car park:) Pleanty of beach at least. I really need to visit Florida. Its definatly a beautiful looking place, i guess when i do get to college i will take a weekend driving trip down there.

Nothing wrong with it at all. Petrol was cheap ($1 per gallon) & it was perfect for our adventure. Unless you wanted to do a U-turn. Grumpy's Tours is famous for getting hoplessly lost & doing U-turns. It was a nice comfortable car but didn't have the best turning circle I've ever come across. Roll Eyes Cheesy

The last thing you should park on a beach is a car.
