I just got done playing the demo...  and... erm...

Questions!

Is the whole befuddled game really that friggin' scary!?  I was scared outta my wits!  I played this level where you got off a train and just explored around and stayed away from the cops - I loved that.  But the "We don't go to Ravenholm" - cripes a'mighty!  Almost terrified.  Especially those crazy skeleton/rabid/monsters that climb up the side of buildings!  That roaring they make just hits a nerve!

Then I finished the demo and realized I was playing a game. Lips Sealed Embarrassed Reminds me of the time I played a CFS2 fight against the AI, and I forgot it was just a simultaion.  Like a 16 on 40-50 dogfight!  I was sweating afterwords!

I liked Half life 2, but it was just too scary! Shocked Embarrassed

Hmm...I got the game, and I don't find it sacry...

I might get a shutter once in a while (damn snipers are hard as crap to see... Roll Eyes)...

I found the Ravenholm more fun than scary...gravity gun + saw blades = lots & lots of fun Grin

Ravenholm level is actually very short compared to some of the othr chapters int he game.

Get the game, you won't regret it. The only thing i regret about getting HL2 is that i didn't get it sooner.

As for scary, try doom3...its not scary at all...

HL2 will startle you in places. Well made game as is DOOM3. Love them both.

Now Painkiller, that one is scary to me. Another very well made game, excellent graphics.

Far Cry is another you should try.

A scary one for me was the old Return to Castle Wolfenstien. I still like to load that up and give it a whirl now and then. lol

Oh, I have Far Cry, the problem is, it's the first FPS I've played since MOH: AA, so now I only want games that can meet or beat Far Cry.  Rats! Cry

Half Life 2 looks good tho'.  And I like the whole movie thing, whether they're cutscenes or just dialog segments, I love a tangled web of a plot.

This is all very encouraging, but I just hope the whole game isn't like Ravenholm! Embarrassed I prefer my pants (and my pride) dry and clean! Cheesy Wink

I downloaded the Halo and Half-Life 2 demos, and I have to say, the latter most definitely outclasses the former; I'm quite demanding when it comes to graphics, and Halo just doesn't level up!

You will like HL2 then Skorpion. In my opinion, they have added so many different elements to the game. Ravenholm is the only place that I remember where they use the "Haunted" theme.

Wait 'till you get to take the "Big Ride". That's what I call it anyway. There is definately plenty of action, good plot and it carries you along, different types of areas. (You not stuck in one or two types of areas, like a city and the forest all the time.) They have mixed it up pretty well.

Must warn you though, be prepared for a different type of install on this one. You have to activate an account online ONCE to be able to play the game offline. Bit of a hassle but I guess necessary with all the pirating going on. I am on dial up and it wasn't that bad.

If you don't like being scared, DON'T get Painkiller!!!! I actually let out a loud OHHHHHH!! when playing it the first time, thought the wife was going to die from laughing so dang hard!!

Lol, here I come with my opinion.

Fireman and everyone else couldn't be more right in how good HL² actually is.

I was used to graphics like battlefield, and then I went to this, I was just like holy crap!

The 2 things I would have to say I don't like much about HL² is....

The part right after installing like fireman said, and there are a ton of load points within a map that take 30 seconds or so to finish, which sorta slows the action down.

Lol, I just cannot express how great this game was, just get it.... you wont regret it  Grin

To play the HL2 demo, you need a steam account, so I assume you already have one.

Just use steam to buy and you 'll be fine. Do NOT buy HL2 in a store. The CD's have a security protection problem as well needing a cd to play. If you buy through steam, which is not only cheaper, you automatically get a LEGAL no-cd patch. Just startup steam and you'll be fine to play, it has a offline mode as well.

Strange. I installed HL² from disc, logged into my friend's Steam account, activated HL², set the mode to 'offline' and voilà, I could play without having the HL² disc in the drive.

And for those of you who don't have good enough comps to run HL2, The original Half-Life is still one of the best FPSs available-I'm not kidding.  If it was released today it would be an awesome game.  It was released in 97, and I still play it every week.  Recently named PCGamers #1 game of all time (very well deserved) HL2 was #4.

And ya, HL2 kicks ass.

Same here, still play the original HL2. And HL2 will practically run on any machine. The engine is so frickin optimized. Its runs on a geforce4 mx440 very well at 1280 by 1024 res (of course at dx7 level, so less gfx goodies)

Cripes a'mighty!

I got Half Life 2 yesterday, and it's awesome!  I'm loving every second of it!  Except the spooky scenes with those crazy skeletons-with-head-humpers that go bezerk and sound like a rabid dog when they come after you.  I;m not found of the guy who totes around 6 head humpers and then throws them at you, either.  But other than that, schweet! Grin

One question tho': are updates automatically done with Steam when it starts up?  I can't find any updates on the official site and such.

???

Toodles! Kiss Grin

Yeah, I think HL² is updated automatically via Steam.
Ah, Ravenholm. Razor blades, Zombies, and that crazy priest. I just love that episode! Grin
Look forward to "Highway 17". That's where the HL² engine really shows its muscles!

Rats, that was awfully short... Tongue I thought it'd be something like Far Cry where the game just keeps going and going and going...  I've never liked multiplayer too much, but, I might check it out now. Embarrassed

Steam update al your games automatically, so don't worry, you always have the newest versian.

Yeah, Ravenholm is my favorite chapter. Endless fun. I've played it several times already.
