Yes, the Northern Lights are in FS2002, and about now is a good time to see them - head north from Anchorage in Alaska and you should see them. I saw them a couple of days ago on a flight between London and Oslo.

Go above 66 degrees north or below 66 degrees south in either autumn or spring to see either the northern or southern lights.

This is something a lot of people have had trouble with. I don't know why though. I saw them on my first ever attempt to take a look.

Do a search for "L้on Louis" (I am not sure which sim site these effects came from) and you will find a good Northern Lights/Aurora Borealis download that works in either FS2002 or 2004.  Thing is, they are seen at most airports in Alaska only, just choose any night-time setting and you should see them appear.  I would be very interested in modifying the location of these effects as they appear frequently here in Edmonton...

Heres a screenie I just took, stock FS2002 set up. Flying between Anchorage and Deadhorse Alaska at 29000 feet, 11PM, in January.

...

Pretty cool effect for sure.

First time I ever flew this flight I was totally surprised to see that the Northern lights had been modeled into the sim!

Grin

Cheers,
Chris
