Didn't know if anyone else had posted this, but I just noticed that you can "join" Steve Fossett in his non-stop attempt around the world.

He'll be using the same high altitude winds (jet stream) the long distance balloonists use.
I hope he makes it, that would be incredible!
And the route isn't polar, its Newfoundland, then across the ocean and to north Africa and the Middle East before passing over Pakistan and India and onwards until it re-enters US airspace over Los Angeles, landing, if things go smoothly, back where it started in Salina.

The aeroplane only weighs about 3000lbs. 83% of the take off weight was fuel - and he only has one little jet engine to burn it... Smiley

Seems realistic too - takes bloomin' ages to take off, climbs like a vat (full) of marmalade, and is good for straight lines (and not much else)... Grin

He already made the trip in a balloon.  This is the first non-stop solo flight around the world.
