I believe a program called 'The Gimp' is free and and should do this no problem. Other than that Paintshop pro is quite cheap and also computer magazines are often giving free old versions of photo software on there cover discs.

Hi
Ok the cheap blokes guide Smiley

DXTbmp http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/index.htm
Now set up DXTbmp so that it uses the paint program that comes with windows, how? run dxtbmp on the right side under the alpha window there is an Icon click on it and browse to MSPAINT.EXE (the folder depends on what win ver ya running)

next

irfanview google it as the main sites down
This program is great for quick and dirty tweaking of images

next

PhotoPlus 6 http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/software/photoplus/default.asp
An easy to learn paint program thats  FREE and has most of the features needed

So my way of doing textures is to start with Mspaint for the basic outlay
then open the texture in DXTbmp click on make alpha channel then double click on it in DXtbmp,it will now open in mspaint,if its a simple alpha channel Ill do most of the work here.If I need to do layers ect I select all~copy then fire up Photoplus then edit~paste why?.Ive had problems with  photoplus saving bmp's so when I finished editing I copy and paste back to MSpaint then save safer and gives me a good idea of how the texture will look in FS.I use IrfanView for resizing and color/brightnes balance using the same cut/paste to and from MSpaint
Cheers
