I'm giving this a try as well and I'm basically running it on B-spec.  I did the first couple laps or so manually and now its all B-spec from here (at 3x speed).  It has been running for about 5 hours now and I am 12 hours in (its 11pm).  I think I'm going to keep it at 3x B-spec and leave it running all night.  I know that it will return to 1x when it pits so once I got to bed it will return to 1x, but I figure by morning it will be almost done.  I really hope this F1 car is as good as it is supposed to be.

Well, I have completed it now too.  I did it in the 1998 Mercedes-Benz CLK Racing Car which was fully built and has about 1030hp.  I completed 212 labs in 24 hours and finished about 10 labs a head of 2nd place.  For those of you who are also going to try this, I used a combonation of hard and super hard racing slicks on the car, the hard were in front and the super hard in the rear.  I found that this lasted 4 laps and I had 16/80 fuel remaining at each tire change.  This tire combonation caused the tires to wear evenly.  For this of you who are interested, this race was 2743 miles in my case.

Just a little more interesting information, I discovered how far you can go on one take of gas.  As I have said, I allowed most of the race to happen as a B-spec race and at one point I accidently bumped the control and messed up the game, it skipped a pit stop.  It attempted to pit on the 5th lap on the current set of tires but the pace I had set (4-fast) caused it to slide past the pit stop.  So, on lap 136-my car ran out of gas.  I had completed 5.5 laps on that tank. 

Just in case your wondering (I was very concerned during this)-if you run out of fuel you are not out of the race.  Once the tank is empty the car is very limited to speed (kind of like during a special condition race when you have a 5-second penaltity).  When you run out of gas you are limited to 50mph.  Once you pit and fill up the tank-you can resume normal racing speed.  I ran out of gas on the opposite side of the course and as a result drove about 6 miles at 50mph.  But, I was far enough a head at that point and I didn't lose my lead (I was up by like 6 laps on second place when it happened). 

As for my B-spec settings, I left the game pace at 4 (fast) the whole time.  It seemed to work just fine (except for when I bumped something and messed up the pit stop).  An average lap took me 6:30.00 to complete.
