Anybody own the game yet? i do and it is BAD-ACE if you own it what do you think of it? i dont like the way its layed out in the simulation mode where you buy your cars, enter races etc. but gameplay and graphics are freakin awesome. and it even lets you import your A and B licence and 100,000 dollars from GT3 A-Spec (but its only a one time thing)

I think its really good (so far).  I just got it last night and I haven't had time to play it too much (had to study) but so far I'm impressed.  The graphics are amazing and it actually has some awesome cars this time-I love the 2 '69 Camaro's it has (even though they don't handle worth crap).  Anyway, hopefully I'll get time to play it over the next couple days and check it out a little more.  Unfortunately, I have an O.Chem exam next week that will probably deminish the amout of time I can play video games.

Alright, here's my opinion, (and it's not a very popular one, but I speak the truth) GT4 is pretty and there are more cars and tracks but I am really not that impressed, I feel like I have started GT3 over again, I have also read reviews in a couple of different magazines that share the same analysis, so I am not alone.
I remember when GT3 came out it was a major leap from GT2 (yes I realize you must factor in the capabilities of the PS1 vs. PS2) but the game was such a step forward, I'm not feeling that this time.

There is nothing groundbreaking or inovative about this new version, as a matter of fact to the disdain of my co-workers/fellow gamers, I have taken to calling GT4 GT3.1, all it really is is an upgraded version of GT3.

Now don't get me wrong, I am still going to be playing it, I just guess that after a 4 year frickin' wait I expected a little bit more, no online play, still no damage or ill-effects if you run into a wall or the other drivers (in fact you have to muscle your way into the lead a lot of times if you want a win), no penalties for cutting corners or shooting straight through a chicane (a great way to gain positions), I certainly was not "Blown away" like some of the other guys I know who claim they just couldn't stop playing it, personally I didn't have a problem shutting it off because as I said, I feel a bit like "here we go again" and I'm not all that enthused about working my way back through all those races with crappy cars to get to the good cars so some "real" racing can take place.
Oh yeah, and while on the subject of the cars, I have been thinking of the 700 cars that are supposed to be in the game and realize that I will probably only actually use about 10 or 15 of them to progress through the game.

It's a good game, it might be a little prettier than the last one, maybe there is more to do...but still, after all the time that has passed and all the delayed release dates, I guess I feel a little disappointed, but that's just my opinion.

Since it isnt out here i cant say. However i am not surprised by Paz's review. This game was hyped up too much and even looking at the pictures, while much nicer than 3, its still the same essentially. However for me the appeal is the new tracks. Paz have you played the prologue version for GT4? that apparently has penalties for hitting the walls and other cars. Alot of people were complaining about it and were hoping it wouldnt be in the final version. The ultimate question which answers what makes a good game. Do you loose track of time while playing it? I have never had a game that i couldnt "stop playing" however there are games where they are so good you just loose track of time.
Bring on the PS3 and GT5 in some 5 years time Roll Eyes Smiley

I'm not sure what you mean by "prologue version", once the game starts you can choose from arcade or Turismo version which is basically the career mode, maybe that is what you mean.
As far as I can tell, all that happens if you hit something is the screen shakes a little and you are on your way. The AI drivers will bully you whether you hit them first or not (just like past Turismo's), I watch the AI cars in front of me when the race starts and they immediately start hitting each other for position, and you can be several seconds in the lead on the final lap but as you near the last few turns it seems like one of the AI cars will always come out of nowhere and start ramming you and trying to run you into the walls or off the track and once they pass you can't catch them (just like past Turismo's), resulting in several second place finishes before you figure out how to beat them to the line.

No, I don't lose track of time while playing it, I spent so much time and got so far in GT3 that I just can't seem to get excited about doing it all over again, I run a few races and then usually turn it off and play something else. It might be different for someone that has a lot of time on their hands, but I have little spare time during the week that is going to become even more limited as the year progresses, we start overtime next week and in April we start working 10 hour days and Saturdays for the remainder of the year, so I won't have much time for anything else.

I'm not trying to discourage anyone from checking out GT4, and I'm not at all saying it's a bad game, it's not,  there are a lot of new tracks and stuff and more choices, I just don't see it as the bombshell it has been made out to be.
The Driving Force Pro wheel works great though, it was designed for this game and really does seem to work better with GT4 than other games I have tried it on.

Prologue, was a almost like a demo of it, released a few months before the main version. It had a load of cars couple of tracks to give people an idea of what to expect.

Nope, can't say I ever had the chance to check it out. I think it was only released in Japan wasn't it?

Yeah i can definalty see where your coming from Paz on it being just an updated version of GT3, but i mean then again with the whole cars not being wrecked or damaged i have been told that they do not do that cause the car companies leasing the rights fot GT to use there cars said they dont want to see there cars all smashed and damaged, i personally think that is stupid seeing as it is "just a game" and as for the AI car bullying you, yes i can notice that alot, several times i have had to redo the same race 4-5 times just to get a first place finish, i have also noticed that the AI cars are alittle bit stronger in this one, i mean its like if you dont go in the race with a suped up car your gonna get bet. i have tried racing several races with just a stock car and no matter what i do i get beat everytime.

I never had GT3 so I can't really compare them.  A friend of mine has it and I have played it a little and I do feel that they are very simular-so I could see how someone with GT3 could be disapointed.  I never got GT3 (I refused to buy it since they cut out most of the classic cars) and as I result I continued to play GT2 until this one came out.  From my perspective, I am very impressed.

I can certainly see what an improvement it must be for you, GT2 was possibly my favorite of the series as far as the actual racing goes.

I'm getting a little further into the game now, it has an extremely annoying glitch that makes the screen jitter and kind of blurry, 4 years and they couldn't even release a clean game, this bug is so obvious that they have to know about it, everyone I know has the same problem, so I know it's not just my PS2.
