Struggling with my winds aloft settings. I can see how to operate the various setting both Global & Local but the results on my flying are not really noticeable. Experiences of other flyers, please.

Not really sure what you mean here, I've never had a problem with winds aloft-try using real world weather.

Thanks for response. Really meaning that I am having problems understanding how an aircraft behaves in winds rather than having problems with configuring the winds in settings boxes.
For example, heading North in the Cessna 172, even with severe winds from the N/W I still plod along heading North. This is with GPS & autopilot disconnected. I've used Global & Local winds & understand that one has to be in the location of a weather station.
I'm wondering if the wind pushes the aircraft to the side rather than changing the actual direction/heading of the a/c. Ex: the aircraft is slipping but still pointing in the same direction.
With my GPS on and following a track to a given airfield I can see how the a/c deviates from course.
Sorry if this sounds confusing but I'm seriously trying to further my flying skills.

Hmm, ok. What exactly are you expecting to happen if you're headed north and winds are out of the NW?
This kind of situation is referred to as a quartring headwind. You have a headwind, but you're not feeling all of it-about half. No, winds aloft don't actually make the aircraft turn (unless they're really strong), they gradually push the aircraft of it's course-that's why, in real life, a Wind Correction Angle is factored into flight plans.
Did that cover everything?
