Ok, I've spent the last few hours trying to get my textures to show up is fs9.  Yes I know yet again I can't figure it out.  So I'm asking for anyone to help, I was hoping I could e-mail the plane to someone and they can get the texture map to work, there is only one texture map to work with.  Then give me step by step instructions on how to do it myself.  If anyone cna do me this major favor that can help me learn how to do all this, I'll greatly appreciate the favor.

Two things to consider:  1) Is the texture file size being saved in the proper size format, e.g., by a factor of 4?  The lowest I have seen is 16 x 16 pixels, usually anything 128 x 128 pixels, 256 x 256 pixels or 512 pixels x 512 pixels is utilized.  To then get the texture to conform, if it doesn't quite look right with the fullsize texture, you then edit the X and Y cropping coordinates within the texture editor.  2) Have the textures been saved as 24-bit bitmaps?  If so they won't work in FS2002/2004.  In order to maintain colour integrity it's best to save them as 32-bit .bmp files, this can be achieved either by use of a dedicated bitmap editor (such as DXTBmp which is a freeware download)  or by using something like FSDS (not sure if GMAX does this as I have never touched that program).  If using DXTBmp, it's best to go a further step; after having saved textures in 32-bit or as "Extended Bitmap",  then select "DTX-3" format option to compress the file sizes.  Anyway, check these two factors out before giving up hope - if they still don't work then holler - lots of people here on this forum are extremely helpful!

the aircraft is in gmax, but the textures in that are fine, its just converting them for use in fs9 is the problem.

Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of a daisy motif with an underling shade of pink.

Well Fudge!!! I couldn't find my can of pink paint  Cry and the daisies just didn't look right without a good base coat of pink.
...

matthew954,

What I found to be the problem, Gmax System Units for the scene were specified in Inches. They really need to be set to Meters.
Here is the run down on how to do this incase you aren’t familiar enough with Gmax to change this.

Open the Customize menu

Select Preferences

Look under the General Tab for “System Unit Scale” section

Make sure you see 1 Unit = 1.0

In the dropdown menu to the right change it from Inches to Meters

Below that there’s a check box for “Automatic Unit Conversion” place a check in it.

Now load your file and when prompted to choose to let Gmax convert the file to current System Units.

The model will be very small and you will need to scale it using the “Select and Uniform Scale” tool to bring the model up to your desired size.

As you indicated to me the wingspan is approximately the same as an F16 at 10.01 meters. I used a tape tool helper and set it’s length to be 10.01 meters, centered it on the craft with the alignment tool and then scaled the craft up to meet the length of the tape tool.

I also converted the texture to 32bit. The 8bit would have been ok though.

Be checking the mail. I am sending the files back to you. fs_devastator.gmx is still in its original from and Unit Scale of Inches.

fs_devastator01.gmax is the modified scene, which has the correct Unit Scale. I have also included the compiled *.mdl and 32bit texture file as well.

If you have any questions let me know.
