I tell you about the format for this thread, or I could just do it.

Just do it. Grin

Rock

Okay, I like my rock, deep, aggressive and very repetitive.  Kinda like a slow, but unstoppable army crushing everything in the way.  2,000 King Tigers under an umbrella of an Air Fleet of Stuka's, moving at 5 MPH, but with no intention of stopping. Grin Needless to say, guitar solos and the wildly deviating sound associated with them aren't to my liking. Tongue
  • Rammstein
  • The 5.6.7.8's
  • Korn
  • Gravity Kills
  • Static X
  • A Perfect Circle
  • (Not Early) Fear Factory

Dance/Techno/Rave

There's all kinds of experimental stuff out there, and a lot of Avant Garde crap.  I like repetitive bass, and a funky little squealy tune.  I don't really know of any "bands" per se, but there are some songs.  Overseer also isn't just dance.  It's a variety of genres, however there's always a... erm... "phat beat"... in all the songs, so it kind of is dance.  It doesn't really fall into one category.
  • Prodigy
  • Overseer
  • Ozone
  • Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400
  • Da Rude - Sandstorm
  • DDR Music - Bumble Bee

Hip-Hop

Funny.  That's pretty much it.  I'm not a great proponent of Hip-Hop, but I do enjoy a good laugh.  Or just really catchy music.
  • Ludacris
  • DMX
  • Mannie Fresh

Country

Just like Hip-Hop, anything funny, or perhaps anything having to do with Texas - The best damn country on Earth! Grin But I like most old style country.  Just a man with a guitar. Smiley
  • Johnny Cash
  • Showdown - The Rodeo Song

Pop

I never thought I'd like Pop, but I have found sub-genre that's quirky enough, and slightly repetitive enough to satisfy my liking: JPop.  God bless the Japanese for all they've contributed eh?  Hello Kitty, supercomputers, square watermelons and, erm, Hello Kitty. Roll Eyes Wink
  • Puffy AmiYumi

Classical

If you were to make a movie of Operation: Barbarossa, and if you could put the song in the background, then it's a good classical song. Grin Roll Eyes Militaristic, goes without saying.  Games supply a good source of militaristic, classical music.  Not limited to just European classical either, classical styles from Japan and the Middle East strike up me fancy as well. Wink I don't know of any band that plays the Kodo drums, but anything with some good ol' Japanese Kodo drums is good. Smiley Back to Europe, violin, piano or opera solos are good, but usually only the mellow ones.  Happy classical music is akin to guitar solos. Tongue
  • Russian Red Army Orchestra
  • Hossam Ramzy
  • Beethoven
  • Wagner
  • Hanz Zimmer
  • Carl Orff - Carmina Burana
  • Samuel Barber - Adagio for Strings

Other Genres

Big Band and Doo Wop and that vocal stuff that doesn't fit anywhere else.  I'm not too familiar with them tho'.  I just know I like 'em. Roll Eyes
  • Big Band and Doo Wop
    • The Andrews Sisters
  • Vocal
    • Sasha Lazzard
    • Meiko Kaji

Overall Favorites (In Very Particular Order)

  • Rammstein
  • The 5.6.7.8's
  • Russian Red Army Orchestra
  • Puffy AmiYumi
  • Sasha Lazard
  • Korn

Rock-like stuff
Just a small excerpt of my favourites, from different subgenres. Powerful, but intelligent, insane, but clear, tears, primal cries and oceans of sound.
  • Amplifier
  • Biffy Clyro
  • At The Drive-In
  • My Chemical Romance
  • Sparta
  • Coheed & Cambria

I agree with Paz. Music is music to me. Never bothered about all these categories or genres as they like to call them nowadays. There seem to be more now than ever before. If I like it I like it. If I hate it I don't listen to it. Simple as that.

hehe, christian music too my friend...

Worked audio at my old church so I was able to work with Bill Gaither and his vocal band...(Nightmare....)

michael W. SMith
Steven Curtiss chapman...
relient K (Before they were big, played guitar with them 3-4 weeks, and did audio work for them for about 3 months or so..)
also some other that I have forgotten I also worked closely with when they visited my church which was frequently used for concerts...Smiley

Let's see what people/bands do I tend to listen to?
Relient K (Duh!)
Newsboys (Both of their new cd's are stuck in my cd player in my truck because they are so good!)
Audio Adrenaline
Supertones
DCT Talk (And all of their adjunct groups)
michael w. smith
steven curtiss chapman
Phil keaggy,

etc...
mainly only listen to christian cd's when I listen to music, typically when I listen to the radio it is on a talk radio station from the local location of my university (Seperate from school though), they have a really cool guy on in the evenings (7-11) who talks about airplanes, space events, etc..Wink

I like any thing from hard rock to black metal... excluding puck rock. I loath all other forms of music. only beacuase most of them either don't write their own lyics and songs, or hire their bands. Taboo I say.
