Life is like an airplane...you can only go one way. Straight. You can't throw it in reverse, you can't parallel park. One way only.

Looks like they hopped from Chicago to Toledo then used the 747 for the flight to Honolulu.

Don't think it was a diversion, just I believe the 747 was at O'Hare and they needed it in Toledo, so they did a quick little jaunt over to TOL so it could be used on the Toledo-Honolulu route.

Why in the world would a QF 747 fly ORD-TOL-HNL??? Strange...very odd...

Well Toledo to Honolulu, I must admit, not a hugely popular route, but here's what I think.

Qantas has a 747 in Chicago they need, probably in Australia. So they place it on the Toledo-Honolulu route and my guess is it's next stop is Sydney or somewhere in Australia. They hop over to Toledo, load up with PAX, fly to Honolulu, land, then fly to Australia or wherever they are needed. It's common for airlines to stick planes on routes that get them to locations where the airlines need them.
