Folks:
I'm having some fun while I "rediscover" CFS2 (I have given up on CFS3). I've been experimenting with the campaigns that use the Dauntless and the Avenger as light bombers, and they are a lot of fun. However, anyone know of some updates that may help me get off the carrier deck without taking a swim?

Thanks,
Poppa_J

Poppa_j I think what you need to do is place the Rudder in auto control. I now this will take a little off the realism away but not by much.

I have it in 100% realism with the exception of the rudders, and I have not have a lot of trouble taking off with any airplane.

You can also practice through the pratice option that comes with the game.

The more you practice the more you learn.

I recommend you make a backup Folder for CFS2. So when you make a mistake with a upgrade you can correct it with the backup Folder. You can do this thru the copy and paste procedure.

You can also learn about tips on how to down load and implement the upgrades and many other procedure with the game thru our forum. This Website also has a section on Tips.

Good luck and Good Shooting

Hi Poppa_J. It's been a long time. Wink

Sorry James but unless you have a joystick without separate rudder control I wouldn't recommend using auto-rudder. This makes controlling the aircraft more difficult for me, not easier. There should be various files posted here & on other CFS2 sites to make the default AI Only drones flyable. I haven't tried them myself for many years & expect some will be better than others. If the job was done properly these should have updated flight dynamics which I assume would make them a tad more realistic. I'm not sure this would make them suitable for operating from carriers. I can only suggest you hunt around & try them.

~S~

If I may recommend the AI-flyable versions available on the CAW-15 site?

http://www.caw15.com/aircraft/aiflyable.html

These all use Bruce Thorson's AIR and MDL file modifications that makes it possible to fly the aircraft and provides them with functioning internal 'virtual cockpit' views (but no virtual gauges, sadly). Other credits for panels, etc., can be found on the download page.

I've landed the SBD-2 on both moving and static carriers and flown it with ease from a moving one, too. No luck getting it off the deck from a static carrier... Of course, that might be me...  ???  Roll Eyes

I found the force feedback on my joystick had a tendency to make me swerve off the side of the ship.

If you use ours

...

...

or any of our other USN, RN or IJN dive & level bombers be sure to follow the TO instructions for setting the trim.

...

Also in general: full flaps, engine+ wep, release brakes, differential steering to stay straight. If you start to drop off the deck keep the nose down as long as you can & get gear up.

Remember its possiable to overload these planes so y'all have to do what the real guys did, adjust weapons loadout or onboard fuel to max takoff weight.

I also recommend you down load AF Midway maission package. I think its one of the best mission package for Bombers available for CFS2.

You can down load it right here in the the CFS2 section where the mission are available.

This package also has a Ai SBD and Vals plus other Bombers made flyable with cockpits as well. They are of pretty good quality.

I like the Ai flyable posted by Padser very much as well.
Their  Ai include a Ki43 with a cockpit and the beauty of this Ai is that you can change their Textures as well if you like.

I will explain it in another Post on how to change the Texture of your planes and still make them show up in your MB with the new texure and not lose the original plane with its original texure. In other words how to make two of the same plane with different texture to show up in you MB.

Hangar might be right. If I were you I would try it both ways . With and without the Auto rudder and see which will suite you best.

One thing I have learn to improve my enjoyment of  this and other programs  better is by flying and fighting for both sides. This has allow me to see the war from both sides. It has has given a more appreciation of the quality and difficulty of both sides. This is only a subjestion.

What little I have learn its been by listening and reading this and othe forums  to dose who know more than me. I also learn a lot by simple trail and error.

Sink them them all.

If you like to fly in the Pacific Theater as well as in Europe this is the Simulator. Cfs3 is great Simulator as well . You can play in both as you like. CFS3 will never satisfy your Pacific needs.

There are no Carriers or Japanese ships to sink at this time in CFS3. You do not have a Pacific map either. You made the right choice. Its your right to choose where you want to fly in.

Poppa_j  Welcome!

Hi All,
To give you more deck to take off from you can open the ship.cfg file (found in the folder of the ship in question) and change the takeoff position.

This is the stock entry for the Enterprise.

takeoff_start=0,21,-50

Change the -50 to -75 or -80

This will help a lot.

Actually that's not correct.

...

CFS3 has IJN carriers Soryu,  Akagi,  Hiryu and Kaga plus the USN carriers,  Yorktown,  Enterprise,  Saratoga,  Lexington and Hornet along with a nice collection of other surface & submarine combatants.

...

...

Also a number of RN carriers like HMS Hermes,  Eagle,  Glorious & Aquila.

There are also some excellent AF (Midway) missions available.

Av Bear and Mathias give us a break. We know CFS3 is decent Simulator. When you have a good program or product to sell you do not need push it in some ones face all the time.

We got your message. You think that CFS3 is a great Simulator. Great, I believe you.

Now leave this poor Gentelmen alone and let him enjoy CFS2 as he likes.

You get mighty upset when some one goes to the CFS3 forum and tells you and other members that FB Ace is better than CFS3.

Their was a member who did just that. I posted that he had the right to speak his mind but that it was class less to go some one elses forum just to tell them that their favorite program was inferior than the one they liked.

I believe that same applies here. You do not have to sell CFS3 to us . I believe most of us like CFS3. But it bit class less degrading the program we like as well.

If Poppa_j prefers CFS2 you do not have to haunt him all the way to this forum to show him that CFS3 is the better Simulator.

If you think your Simulator is that much better than let the product show it for it self.

If anything you are turning me and perhaps other off about CFS3. You do not have to tell everyone that you are good husband or father or anything else.

The facts should show for them self. There are no reason we cannot enjoy both games. There both classic Simulator. There are no reason to leave one for the other.

If you really want to promote CFS3, do it in your forum. I guaratee you you are going to get a lot better results than by posting here negative things about CFS2.

I have never heard anyone from this forum going to your forum to tell you that CFS2 is better than CFS3. Thats because that would be wrong and class less.

You sound more like a men whose girl friend left him and his trying to get even with her, than someone whose trying to promote a program.

Its getting tiresome.

PS I do like all you have done for this community. I do like your products and I do appreciate it. But I do not like you attacking CFS2 and this forum for no reason.

Settle down James. I think if you read it carefully Bear was merely correcting your statement that there are no carriers or ships in CFS3. Wink

I found out a long time ago to be very careful when saying something is not possible in this hobby. Thanks to Bear & all the other freeware developers, most things are possible - even the impossible. Cheesy

As Hagar said it was just a correction of a misconception y'all had posted as fact.  I did not think for one minute you were classlessly degrading the program we like as well.

Additionally, the Avenger & Devastator had taken off from a US carrier & if they survived would have returned to one thanks to Mathias & a workaround he and a few others made.

You should also take note of my very first post in this thread where I tried to help poppa-J with his takeoff problem & clue him into the availability of what I believe are some excellent CFS2 aircraft like this D3A-2 VAL.

...
Another shameless commercial.

>>>But it bit class less degrading the program we like as well. <<<

It could be another misconception on your part but the first series of aircraft screenshots I showed were all CFS2 versions created by AvHistory so I was hardly degrading the program.

CFS3 was never mentioned by me in this thread till you yourself said, "You can play in both as you like. CFS3 will never satisfy your Pacific needs. There are no Carriers or Japanese ships to sink at this time in CFS3"

>>>You get mighty upset when some one goes to the CFS3 forum and tells you and other members that FB Ace is better than CFS3.<<<

Actually I don't get upset at all - getting upset over a computer game makes no sense  at all - I just use those posts as a great opportunity to run a long CFS commercial series.

Personal attacks are something else & in those rare cases it tends to be much harder to remain a kinder, gentler BEAR  Wink

Guys, guys:
I didn't mean to start WW III. I really appreciate all the input. I used all the advice I received, to some degree or another, which has resulted in an even greater enjoyment of CFS2. I truly wish I could get the same enjoyment from CFS3, but I don't. As the old saying goes, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

'Nuff said,

Bear my post was never intended to offend you or any body. Like I said before  you have made a tremendous difference in our community. I for one do appreciate it very much.

Your planes for CFS2 are among my favorites if not my very favorites. I do like what you have done for CFS3 as well.

I like CFS3 very much as you very well know I like CFS2 as well.

I just think both give us different feels and experiece.

Its just bother me every time you get a opportunity you make a commercial for CFS3 in this forum.

I believe most of us know about CFS3 and it capabilities.I know CFS3 with help of all you the developers has become a great Simulator as well. There is no need for continuous Commercials in this forum.

If you read my previous post you will realize how much I apprecaite what you guys have done for this community.

We probably would not bee having this interchange of post as we are having now if it were not for the developers.

We all have the same passion for this hobby. If you want to Market CFS3 go to the FS2004 or Pacific Fighter forum and show them how good CFS3 has become lately.

Now lets enjoy all what CF1 and CFS2 or CFS3 can offer to us.

To me you guys are one community with differrent taste.
Lets enjoy all the different taste that offer for the enjoyment of all.

Have a good day Bear and Mathias. Its never personal.

James007

P.S.  Bear I reread your post, and you are right. Iam sorry I jumped the gun. You where only exposing your CFS2 planes. I am old fashion and I beleive when you are wrong than you should admitted it.
as for World war 111. I do not think so, only clarifying things up.
You can find AvBear CFS2 planes at www.Netwings.org
They are under the name of Av history CFS2 planes. Enjoy and happy shooting. Do not give up on CFS3. Upgrade it and see if it wiil a different for you.

Guess I will disagree with you again Wink

Please can we leave it here guys. This thread is going nowhere & it seems to me that it was all a misunderstanding anyway. Poppa_J found out what he wanted to know which is the important thing.

No offence James but you seem to take all this so seriously. Lighten up a little. No matter how passionate we might feel about this hobby please remember it's only a game. Wink

PS. I reckon to be one of the most passionate as I was involved with CFS1 almost from the start. I sometimes regret it as I'm still obsessed now, 6 years later. Roll Eyes

Iam glad Bear you are teaching this basic and great values to your class. Iam trying to to do the same with my kids.

I know what Iam telling you. My wife is a teacher and  I work for the Gorverment and have to deal with the public every day, and I tell you not every kid in this world are taughted  this basic value system by their parents.

My family taught  me this basic lessons since I was kid and I have tried to lived by them all my life.

Now as for Hangar comments. You are right Hangar its only a game.

I hope you all have a good day.
This will my last post on this subject.
