I'd like to ask the community which they think is:
1) the absolute best graphic chipset for FS2004
2) the "best-buy" (good price but still great performance) graphic chipset for FS2004.
I'd want to start from here building my new PC.

Not sure about the best buy, but the best card is either the ATI radeon 9800 pro or the nVidia GeForce 6800GT Overclocked version. These are both insane graphics cards and arent cheap. I would go with whatever you find out the best buy is.

Nvidia 6600GT or a 6800GT  (which 90% will overclock safely to "Ultra" speeds)

From £140 to £250 for the 128MB 6600 GT through to a 256MB 6800GT

Be warned, I've seen FS9 reduce a 6800Ultra to single figure FPS rates  Shocked - It was still very smooth though even @ 9fps!  (1600x1200 Everything maxxed, 8xAA 16xAF Ground level, flying through New York! )  Grin

What about the ATI Radeon chipsets? Any thoughts?
And what about the new PCI standard (PCI-X if I'm not mistaken): worth a try or is it better to stick with AGP?

1) The radeon X850 XT PE (Its PCI-e) (it even beats out dual 6800 Ultras due to no fs9 support for SLI)

2)The 6600 gt offers the best performence for its price.

Just ordered the BFG OC'd version of the 6600 GT AGP.  But not sure how to set it up with FS9. With an Athlon 3200XP, half a gig of dual-channel DDR 400 are there ballpark settings I can use to get the most from the card and still be stable? ???

Wink   These should give you an idea, the above mentioned 9800pro is not in the same class. In fact, nothing else is, except perhaps an overclocked 6600 GT or ultra.

The XL on top there is a budget model.

If you are basing a new PC around the card, then you should be thinking PCIe and not AGP. Look at the latest chipset offerings with PCIe for your mainboard, such as nForce4 chipsets for AMD 64 bit systems, or nForce5 perhaps if you want an Intel system.

...Mainboard: Asus P5K-Premium, CPU=Intel E6850 @ x8x450fsb 3.6ghz, RAM: 4gb PC8500 Team Dark, Video: NV8800GT, HDD: 2x1Tb Samsung F3 RAID-0 + 1Tb F3, PSU: Antec 550 Basiq, OS: Win7x64, Display: 24" WS LCD

Since your building new, I suggest you buy a PCI-express motherboard. That way you are future proof.

1) ATI X850 XT PE is the absolute best. Not even in dual SLI 6800 ultras can beat it in fs2004 due to fs2004 lack for support for SLI. Its costs about 600 USD.

2)6600 gt is the best card for price/performence ratio. Comparable ATI cards such as the x600 simply don't compare. The 6600 gt is about 200 USD.
