Probably my favorite act of all time was The French Connection... husband and wife Daniel Heligoin and Montaine Millet, who flew their Mudry CAP 10s with jaw-dropping precision and artistry. Here they are hard at work on a nice summer day in 1994.
Their show usually started with Daniel making a snaproll on takeoff. then with "The Blue Danube" waltz playing, they'd start their aerial ballet, with no commentary.
A voice-over reads a poem about flying: "If this moment lives forever, then I will live forever" is a line I remember. Just beautiful. Loops, hammerheads, crisscrossing maneuvers, not too fast, but so precise it was unbelievable.
Wouldn't be an airshow without some hairy head- on passes... but what's this?
It's the "Mirror Image" pass: one plane inverted, as close as possible. I think Daniel, who had a few more years' experience, flew the inverted part, following his wife's lead...
They go all the way around the field like this, in a circle. Wow!!
Soon it's time for the next bit. The announcer interrupts briefly to warn the crowd to keep their eyes on the masters...
Yes! Side-by-side snap rolls!! And with a heavy crosswind, no less!!
These moments WILL live forever, thanks to these immortals...
