Hallo all!
I would like to make a scenery of my home town airport - Riga International but as I am a newbay in scenery design I have some problems.
I am using Easy object designer for my objects and Airport for Windows to place it in Fs9.
1) First of all I have question concerning textures: How the textures ar created? Is it something very difucult and I need some specific program? How it is done? All the time I thought that I can draw something by MS paint and then in Easy object deigner notified it as a texture file to read. Is that the way how to do that?
2) My secound question is concerning ground textures and ground painting. How to paint the ground in the airport? For example: some specific signs and lines on the ground as in airports it is. Do I need to create poligon by Airport for Windows and them somehoe to paint it? How the texture files for the ground is made as well?

Thanks for  help in advance

Best regards

You may find it hard to create textures using paint, most scenery designers require a slightly more sophisticated program such as paint shop pro or photoshop. There is a freeware program called the gimp - http://www.gimp.org/ which is a free alternative. I'm downloading it now to see what its like.

Anyway thats off topic - if you can or have created textures in Paint then hats off to you! However you create them the final textures should be in 8bit colour format (256 colours) & have dimensions of either 128x128 pixels, 256x256 pixels or 512x512 pixels. EoD & FS will be able to handle anything along those lines.  Shout if you need more help!

For FS9 the simplest way to create the ground is with AFCAD2 as wji says. This will allow you to modify & expand on the default easily & with great results.

Here are three examples of this & similar combinations.

The first is a quick little project i'm working on to see what the easiest combination of design is, - (Please bear in mind the buildings are my first attempts in GMAX so don't laugh..) The taxiways are created in AFCAD2 with buildings placed with ObplacerXML from Gmax.

...

This is a super scenery of RAF Lyneham with AFCAD2 base & objects made with EoD & placed with FSSC.

...

This last one is from Bristol which I made with FSSC - as you can see the taxiways are reasonably crude compared to the AFCAD2 style.

...

So take your pic!

Ohh thanks, I will give a tray to Afcad.
But I am just wondering how I should make all the signs on the ground - you know - in afcad there is no those red marks where are aircraft engines etc. How to create and put them on to my ground? Is it also done by afcad?

Best regards

I have just tried AFACD2 and have found it is very easy to use and does a better job than FSSC.

On the signage you could create a macro yourself and place it using FSSC as you would for buildings, hangers etc.

On the issue of paint programmes I have used mainly MS Paint for my RAF Leeming etc and you can do a good job with it although compared to other packages it is limited.  I then used DXTbmp to convert them from 24-bit or get FSDSv2 to do it as I use this macors.

Happy designing

If you're creating a new airport or editing an existing airport you will need to delete out of place signs & create new ones.

To delete the default signs you can use ExcBuilder2
http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=ExcBuilder&CatID=root&Go=Search

Then you can create your own signs using Createsign.
http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=creatsign_n.zip&CatID=root&Go=Sea...

Thanks for these useful links I d/l them and will take a look
Readme states:"FSConnect.dll is included , Copy it into your modules folder (Thank's Russel Dirks for their Big tool)."
Question:
Are FSUIPC and FSConnect compatible? That is, can they both be installed in the FS9 modules' folder?

thnx

I think they are compatible - never had any problems myself.
