I am surprised that I havent seen this posted in the forum, maybe I am not putting in the right search criterea. If this is a redundant question, I apologize.
I just started playing with the aircraft.cfg file today, in order to understand how this file impacts aircraft performance. I increased the power_scalar and thrust scalar on a P-40 to "1.5" to speed this slow poke up.
At about 400mph i lose all flight controls and the plane dives. I assume it is because the excessive speed produces simulated stress on all control cables and breaks them. I can see there is no aileron action outside of the cockpit.
How do I compensate for this (even if it is cheating, and beyond the stress load of the airframe). I just want to have some fun. Thanks!!

You could try changing the StressDamage line in the [Realism] section of the CFS2.cfg file (main combat flight simulator 2 folder).
Set it to: StressDamage=False
This is the advice given by the FoxFour team for use with their Korean campaigns so the game will handle the stresses of jet flight - I assume it will work for you too

When I checked this file, this parm was already set to "false". Any other ideas? Ideally, I would like to learn how to do it on individual aircraft. Thanks!

Sorry - that's the extent of my knowledge on this one.
Unless it's something set in the aircraft.cfg file. There are parameters in this file that set the speed at which flap, gear, etc., damage occurs. Perhaps you could look into that.
The best resource I know for getting to grips with the aircraft.cfg file is here:

Use the drop-down Models > CFG File menu to locate the different sections

Hi,
In the airfile there is a section called "control effectiveness" section 300. It defines the effect speed has on the control surfaces. This is the most likely what is causing your prop.

That is an interesting thought and it did get me to explore the airfile. My interpretation is that at 400 mph, I would still have some control, but like I said, I am a newbee. This is what it revealed:
aileron 1/4 effectiveness speed = 350
aileron 1/2 effectiveness speed = 500
elevator 1/4 effectiveness speed = 450
elevator 1/2 effectiveness speed = 1000
Are these values MPH or Knots? I seem to lose control at 400 mph. How does that corrolate to these values and what would be a logical adjustment?

Hi,
I really don't know if it is knots or MPH. Knot that it matters very much.
As a general rule when I am messing with airfile values I usually first double or half the value just to see if it affects the area I am after. Then fine tune from their.
Just rembmber that with airfile changes you must load another aircraft then reload the one your changing for the changes to take affect.

I did as you suggested, no go. I altered the WEP(turning it off and on) to verify that the updated airfile was being actually being read in with the mods. I could see a change in aileron sensitivity as speed increased - increased as speed increased).
One interesting thing I did discover was that flight control was lost at 400 kts (450 mph) and was regained, once below that speed ( I cut throttle, and applied flaps to slow down).
This tells me that this wasnt a damage profile result (at least not in a structural sense). It also seems that this must be some parm for a max speed obtained, but I just can't find it.

Hi MAO,
To bad that didn't work. I am no expert when it comes to the airfile. Going into the unknown here. I think that the next record you might want to try to mod is 517 - 519. (this is with aired). Use your left and right arrow keys to select the "X" value and the up/down arrows to change the "Y" values. (be sure to back up because some times you can't seem to change tables back to the org. condition).
