Sounds good to me. If the Asian market will go for 787s at least it will keep Boeing competitive with Airbus with the new planes.   A380 and 787, both have "8"s. May even dig into Airbus' short and medium haul market share.

Maybe "7E7" can be reserved for after the 797, then 7F7, 7G7 ,... ad naseum.

I find this entertaining:

From the Boeing link:
Quote:
Since the naming of the initial 707, all Boeing commercial jets have been named in succession based on the 7-7 formula: 717, 727, 737, 747, 757, 767 and 777 up to the latest Boeing commercial jet transport, the 787.

But that's not really true...the 717 was introduced after Boeing bought McDonnell Douglas in the 90s. MD hadn't released the MD-95 yet so Boeing just "borrowed" it and called it the 717 and sold it. So hah, Boeing screwed up in their own article.

Pilot for a major US airline certified in the: EMB-120, CRJ, 727, 737, 757, 767, and A-320 and military, T-38, C-130, C-141, and C-5 along with misc. other small airplanes. Any questions, I'm here for you.
