Hello sidemonster,
I haven't seen a FS2004 download for a space shuttle, but I have seen some for
FS2002
(
www.surclaro.com
).
Here is the link (scroll to the bottom of the screen):
http://www.surclaro.com/fs2002_c15.html
I don't know if it would be compatible with FS2004 (but theirs no harm in trying is there).
I have also included the link because I find that a lot of people who are running FS2004 are also running (or have a copy of) FS2002.
I hope this is helpful.
catch ya later.

If you want to fly space craft then you need another sim. FS 2004 has a hard altitude limit so space flight isn't much fun.
Give this program a look see.
http://www.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/~martins/orbit/orbit.html
A new version has just been released. No altitude limit except maybe Pluto or Charon. Very realistic physics. So realistic that the learning curve is extremely steep. I've been flying Orbiter for longer than I have MSFS and there's things that you can do that I haven't managed yet.
Best selling point of this one is that it's absolutely free (and better than many payware sims). Just download it and install it. Lots of add ons too from historic space vehicles, modern shuttles to science fiction and hard fiction (realistic but nonexistent).
Screenshot from last night's trip up to ISS.

Wow MattNW, that space flight simulator looks amazing
- i'm typing this whilst i'm waiting for it to download!!!! Can't wait to try it. It looks VERY impressive from the screenshots - i'm stunned that it's freeware!!
Thanks for the link.

has a brilliantly fast and easy to fly shuttle with a separate photoreal panel which is easily editable for inclusion of GPS etc.
The only runway it can land on (apart from the desert) however is the NASA Shuttle Landing Strip at Cape Canaveral (ICAO code is X68 ).

I was a little dubious at first myself. Don't know how many "freebies" I've downloaded only to find they were free for a reason. This is the real thing though. Technically it's "Donation Ware". Dr Schweiger has a Pay Pal link on the main Orbiter page. If you like it and have some to spare that's great but mostly it's a hobby. There's a huge Orbiter community and all kinds of add ons. Might be a little while until all the add ons are updated for the new version.
Almost forgot. For sound you need an add on. Orbiter doesn't come with sound. Go to:
http://orbiter.dansteph.com/
and then to the download page for Orbiter Sound.
Be prepared to study a lot. {best Harrison Ford voice} "Flying in space ain't like dusting crops, kid" (always wanted to say that
). With realistic physics you better bone up on your orbital mechanics. Lots of tutorials however to help out. One in particular on the same site as Orbiter Sound called Trevor John's Tutorial is the best in my opinion. It'll get you into orbit from Mars and to Phobos. Works the same from Earth to the Moon.

Ahh - that helps a lot, I was wondering why i didn't have any sound (& i couldn't see a download for it).
But even without the sound it was still a very impressive simulator (nearly called it a
'game'
then, oops, sorry).
I must admit i'm always dubious aswell as too why some things are
'free'
, but i don't seem to have encountered any
hidden extra's
with this download.
Thanks for the sound link.

Actually I was talking about programs that just don't work. I
ALWAYS
check for the "hidden extra's" even in files I download from Microsoft like Windows updates (never can tell). There's also the ones that say they are free but then require you to purchase something else to make them work the way they are supposed to.
On the same site as the sound add on there's a ship you may want to check out also once you get a little proficient. Dan's been working on a very complex Delta Glider. It rivals many FS aircraft when it comes to complex systems. You have a programmable FC, life support system with consumables and EVA capability. You can also get killed in it unlike many other Orbiter ships.
You just have to try undocking from ISS with the airlock open at least once.
