Adding brakes on sopwith camel ? (Read 593 times)

Has anyone tried this CFG tweak on the Camel? I suppose I should have done so myself as would only take a couple of minutes to find out. This is the AIR file entry I referred to opened in AirEd. The original entry was FALSE (0).

Right. I tried it. Forget that [brakes] entry in Aircraft.cfg. (Just to confirm that the Camel Aircraft.cfg doesn't have one & I can't find a [brakes] entry in the FS2002 defaults.)

Download AirEd & use it to open the Camel AIR file. First change the 332 Brakes entry to TRUE as in my previous shot by clicking on it. Now scroll down to 1101 Primary Aerodynamics & open it up by clicking on the + sign. Find the Braking Strength entry. It's set to 0 zero. Change it to 22000.

Select the entry, type in the desired value & hit Enter. This was copied from the Cessna 182. You can tweak it later if you wish.

Save the AIR file & open Aircraft.cfg. Scroll down to the [contact_points] entries & change the brake map values like this. (1 = left & 2 = right brake.)

[contact_points]
point.0=1,  -9.0,   0.0, -2.2, 1181.1, 0, 0.519, 180.0, 0.304, 2.5, 0.695, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0
point.1=1,   2.0,  -2.5, -4.5, 1574.8, 1, 0.519,   0.0, 0.304, 2.5, 0.686, 0.0, 0.0, 2.0, 0.0, 0.0
point.2=1,   2.0,   2.5, -4.5, 1574.8, 2, 0.519,   0.0, 0.304, 2.5, 0.682, 0.0, 0.0, 3.0, 0.0, 0.0

Exit Notepad saving changes & try it.

PS. Take backup copies of the AIR file & Aircraft.cfg before editing them in case you mess it up.

...looks cool that Hagar...guess the CFG file thing was a red herring...Personally I was only comparing it with the Curtiss Jenny in FS9 as it was the one without brakes and I don't have 2002. I shouldn't have assumed it would be same or similar to  FS9...Turns out brakes set up was totally different eh?....Hope you get fixed up from that alaska..sorry mate..commoner Wink

I haven't looked but I suspect that [brakes] entry is FS9 only. I originally added it to the Camel but removing it after doing my own tweaks made no difference at all.  You have to be so careful when dealling with different versions of FS as I've discovered from past experience. I've made my fair share of silly mistakes, still doing so as a matter of fact. Roll Eyes Wink
