I'm sure everyone's dying to see more
, so here goes...
Here's Roger Lenhert, master of the J3.
Maybe you can see here that Mr. Lenhert is just landing the Cub atop the "Teenie Weenie Airport", a pickup truck with ramps on top. Damn!
The incredibly precise Lima Lima Beech T-34 Mentor formation team.
How about this? A wonderfully weathered old Grumman Albatross touching down on FWN's narrow runway.
Artistic shot of the old Albatross.

that last one is great, the Extra (or what ever it is) in the back ground is so out of place, it just makes for a good shot.

Creepy indeed... the thought of getting behind the controls while impaired , especially at night, gives me the willies. I'd pass out before I got drunk enough to think I could pull that off!! "Rotten luck"? Hardly. You'd need a miracle to make that landing safely... Never did hang around FWN much, so I never heard about that one, but if you hang around any small airport long enough to have a chat with one of the locals, you're bound to hear some story like that. Worst thing about those drunk-pilot stories is that it makes us all look bad... but at least they made it to the airport and didn't hurt anybody else.
Frankly, I don't want to find out more.... makes me sick, and angry.

Can you imagine hanging around with the Bush pilots of Alaska. There was some good read around here a while back that Savas posted. It explained all about the Bush Pilots Life. The ages ranged from 18 to the older generation. Stories of the these guys, all hanging around some dingy snow covered bar in Juneau. Drinking all night with the juke box blaring. 2 pilots get into a bar fight. More drinking. Shots get lined up. Bush pilots hit on the local girls trying to get a little love.
Now it is 5am and time for the days journey. These guys would drink a cup of coffee and hop right in their planes. Hungover, still drunk. Flying VFR mostly. At night they tell of stories about not being able to tell how high you were when coming in for a landing at night in the snow covered wilderness. Pilots would drop socks filled with rocks and watch them hit the snow to get an idea of how far off the ground he was. Talk about living life on the edge, Ahhh... the Bush Pilot!

I was just telling somebody about a great book called "Flying Cold", about pioneer Alaska aviator Robert Merrill. He wasn't known for his drinking, but became a legend for his flying and bush savvy. If you're into that stuff, you might want to check it out.
