Dunna blame Baird, laddies- he envisioned TV as a tool much like the Internet: a way for people all over the world to get information otherwise unavailable to them, to enlighten even the poor and illiterate. Like most great inventors, he was a dreamer, and he dreamed big, simple dreams. Little did he realize that it would be used mostly to try to get us to buy crap we don't need, and to feed humanity's most loathesome follies and desires. Much like the Internet.
Reminds me of how the Wright bros. were absolutely convinced at one time that with aerial reconnaissance, war would become an impossibility. They were proved wrong long before even WWI was over...
