Thought I'd start a themed post, 'cause I'm bored
(Kind of a screenie contest with edited shots, but no prizes
)
So - as the title says : BRING ON YOUR BRITISH (Ozzy, not TOO MANY Spit shots
, multi-national allowed, as long as it's part british
)
Here's mine.....
Lovely Tornado, along the south coast (Exeter I think
), just before hitting the afterburner.....
Cheers, lookin forward to your shots,
Carl out.....

DAMN DAWG!!
I thought mine looked good
Fantastic shot Air
Is she here ???
This will obviously have to spread across several threads if continuation is allowed.
I'm sure if the number of posts gets too high, Pete or the mods can remove and put a stop to them.
Please allow it, even just for a couple of weeks.
Cheers,
Carl

Alas this is a British thread, and the moose is not indigenous to the British Isles, so you lose this round.
Do not pass Go, do not collect Ł200
Mind you that said I've seen some girls in London nightclubs that look a bit like that

The tornado is probably one of my favourite military jets. When I used to do the ground maintanence for Vodafone I was just trimming a hedge when all of a sudden I heard a massive ROAR!! and looked up and the Tornado was flying over at about 200-300ft!!!

I wasn't aware the RAF had aircraft that could fly so high.

P.S. - I believe we may be over the allowed limit for the thread
If so and you want to post, start in a new thread with same name and hopefully one of the mods will lock this one to avoid going too far over

On the size issue, i'd just kep it in on thread, if the mods have a great problem then the'll do something about it, it'll be easier for judging etc if its all in one thread.

Come on guys. I hate to be the bad guy but please upload to SimV. i know your just worried about bandwidth, but we have had a series of incidents which have caused forum problems recently with a couple of people getting a password pop-up screen because of linked images(not in this topic). If you upload them then these problems are avoided.

ok so the Sea King is based in the S-61, with the obvious additions, / changes, eg winch, windows removed from fuse etc, and new engines, Gnomes i believe.

While were waiting... I'll start..
Is this the real life-
Is this just fantasy-
Caught in a landslide-
No escape from reality-
Open your eyes
Look up to the skies and see-
I’m just a poor boy,i need no sympathy-
Because I’m easy come,easy go,
A little high,little low,
Anyway the wind blows, doesn’t really matter to me,
To me
Now ure turn

Too late,my time has come,
Sends shivers down my spine-
Body’s aching all the time,
Goodbye everybody-I’ve got to go-
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth-
Mama ooo- (any way the wind blows)
I don’t want to die,
I sometimes wish I’d never been born at all-

I see a little silhouetto of a man,
Scaramouche, scaramouche will you do the fandango-
Thunderbolt and lightning-very very frightening me-
Galileo,galileo,
Galileo galileo
Galileo figaro-magnifico-
But I’m just a poor boy and nobody loves me-
He’s just a poor boy from a poor family-
Spare him his life from this monstrosity-

Ok... let me start...
Ohne dich
Ohne dich
Ohne dich
Ohne dich

It was a first try at something new, by a regular user (ie non mod) so perhaps its not perfect, presumabley he'll have excluded his own post seeing as it's come down to him judging.

fair enough. I like the idea behind it. I think though it should have been started with a request for a few judges. Can still do that really. That way its not a ton of work on one person to get a result.

Next time, eh,
perhaps it needs to be raised as a real issue with the mods, maybe get it made into an official competition so it can be properly organised and judged.

Some things in life are bad they can really make you mad .
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle - don't grumble, give a whistle,
and this'll help things turn out for the best. ...and...
Always look on the bright side of life.
Always lokk on the light side of life.
If life seems jolly rotten, there's something you've forgotten,
and that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps, don't be silly chumps,
just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing. ...and...
Always look on the bright side of life. (Come on.)
Always look on the bright side of life.
For life is quite absurd and death's the final word,
you must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin,
enjoy it, it's your last chance anyhow. ...so...
Always look on the bright side of death.
Just before you draw your terminal breath.
Life's a piece of shit, when you look at it.
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show, keep 'em laughing as you go,
just remember that the last laugh is on you. ...and...
Always look on the bright side of life.
Always look on the right side of life.
(Come on guys, cheer up.)
Always look on the bright side of life.
Always look on the bright side of life.
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life.

You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing.
What have you lost ? NOTHING !)

It's the Doc! - very nice work - well done old chap!
It was a tough call between, that, Cleobis' Bulldog and Ant's Lightning
However that one pulled through due to it having "the best looking colours" to quote my next door neighbour 8)
Igorski wins the "most planes with the same colour-scheme" award
,
Nitro wins the "3 spits in the same pic" award
,
CvK gets the "most atmospheric" award
,
Ozzy72 gets the "most inventive bomb" award
,
AND
Collin wins the "not an aircraft" award
Thanks to ALL contestants for participating, well done to Dr_Who and hopefully I'll organise it a bit better next time
Cheers,

Besides, you can edit these ones

I reckon we've got a good format going with this one, just needs more organisation, assign Judges before the strart of the competition, set a definite time of start and finish, and reveal all the winners at once, we were goin barmy

I don't see any problem you guys doing something like this other than it does break a rule set forth by the big guy.!
Quote:
Please do not post more than 500K total of files in any one thread.
Nobody can regulate the amount of images that will be posted. This is why Pete came up with a separate forum just for the screenshot competition because this way it is dedicated to that month's contest & each thread is started by the poster with only 2 shots in each.
There are over 13 original images in the thread so I would assume it is over the 500k limit.
I would say do what you want and see where it goes.....

Your just upset that they are posting all their messages here rather than one of your topics arnt you
Well done Dr, thats a nice edit.
My suggestion is, if your going to run the competition ask some people to be judges and then ask people to post in seperate topics much like the screenshot competition. There is,(no offence meant) likely to be less entrants in this so i dont see Pete or the mods being upset by the extra topics, and its less likely to be closed down for any rules that could be broken.

I felt that separateing the posts would make judging harder as the pictures will be spread out all over the main Edits section.

as long as the thread title clearly shows that its an entry it shouldnt be a problem. this thread is already close to 1.3mb in size which is well above forum limits.

I don't think that is going to happen, sorry. It took over a year just to get the Screenshot forum up and running.
Just do what Craig said.

as long as the thread title clearly shows that its an entry it shouldn't be a problem.
Make sure they say something like "March's Entry by name".
I am sure you can pull this off. The separate forum with the separate edited screenshot contest thing is a bit much. Have fun with what you are doing as you see it can run itself with a little guidance and there is really no need for another forum!

I volunteer to judge. I am not a great editor.
I like the Idea of seperate posts for every entry, but I think we then need to have a sticky post for the contest rules.

Some ideas for possible rules of the comps
1 : No-one can be forced to judge
2 : No-one who judges can enter the competition
3 : Entries must be posted in a thread marked Edit Competition and the year and month of entry (name optional).
4 : Competitions will run for the first 3 weeks of the month. The last week will be for judging, and announcing of winners, and the next months contest brief.
5 Anyone wishing to judge must make announce this in their entry
just my ideas for now

I dont know if another mod can sticky it. But i am sure they wouldnt mind, the idea is a good one without a doubt, lets face it editing shots isnt the easiest thing in the world, lord knows i could never get it. Set it out right plan it right and it could take off well. Its a good way to give those who do edit like yourself, a little recognition.

just a thought, with regards to ease of managing / judging , and keeping withing size regs, people could just use the text link in their posts, so the thread dosnt end up huge
then all the judges have to do is wisk down and check out all the links, any comments on this?

With repect, we need a mod who's on the edit forums quite alot, cause we need to Lock posts that arnt in the regulations and all that stuff..
Hmmm.. like ure idea andy.. but it takes away the tradition of screenshot forums, being able to browse down and see what ure looking at without having to click 10 thousand times... lol
I think any mod can sticky items... if they have the privilige..

hmm I see what you mean about being able to see the pics. The thing i see is that with the official comp, all the entries are in one place, whereas with ours, we're mingled in with the rest of the edits. I dont want us to like miss one out or anything because its been pushed so far down the list etc...

Aye, this could be a problem
Other than that, I'd say it's 'all good'
Must have done something right, judging by the amount of hits it got
Andy : Why can't we FORCE people to judge?
LOL.....
Rules look good to me so far
Anyways, I'm certain we'll find a way round it and get going soon
Later all,
Carl
P.S - although I'm not a mod, I'm always on the edits forum, just to see if I can pick-up any tips, I'll also save EVERY entry onto my HD, that way I can browse all pics at once

Perhaps if every judge keeps a copy of every post, then they can compare at the end and see if they've any missing. or perhaps a quick PM to one of us to say "I've entered"

Just need to find a reasonable solution to the 'where do we post our shots' problem ???

The rules posted by igorski are a good start.
I don't thinks it's a good think to let everyone just post a link. If everyone has it's own thread then the comments on differed entries don't get mixed up and it's much more fun if you can see the pictures with the comments.
Maybe one of the mods will volunteer as a judge and we don't have to worry about making a post sticky. If not we just have to ask them to make it sticky.
I don’t think we need to lock a topic because it is not within the contest rules. If it is not within the forum rules then the mods will take care of it. If it is not within the contest rules we inform the person, but people can still discuss the picture on the forum.

If we combine the ideas of just posting in then Edits forum, with some kind of "I've entered" message to let us know, so we know who to look for at the end, then it should work. It realies on people telling us, but as its in their best interests as far as the competition goes, then i figure people would do it, especially if it was inlcuded in the rules / guidelines

March sounds fine, gives us time to iron things out, I think a sticky post with links would be most useful to the ppl in charge / judging, but it would be them compiling it, so i dont see the need there, but hold on to the thought because that just my opinion.

The idea of the list is that every one how doesn't visit this forum every day can easely see who have entered and if you have entered, you can check if you are on the list and tell the judges if not.

the same applys to this as i said with judging, as this is an un-official thing, we cant (and clearly dont want to) force anybody to do a particular job, so if you dont want to or cant do a job then say so, and we'll take voulenteres.
Also what of prises, could we arrange for something? maybe the winner gets put on a sticky each month?
your avatars are similar, except ones a gnat, and one a hunter

Although something different would be nice every now-and-then

The least we could do is make a hall of fame, if it's ok with the mods.
About a prize. Personaly i don't care about a prize, but if anyone wants to make a donation. But like you said it's an unofficial thing so I don't think we need a prize

Some kind of record of past winners is a good idea, we can see how ideas progress as the competition evolves
just needs the nod, and the sticky from the mods.

5 Anyone wishing to judge must make announce this in their entry
just my ideas for now
Can i just add to this.
As far as possible rules.
Image contents? payware and freeware, or freeware only? something to think about there.
specific themes? are you going to run themes like the main contest or will it just be a free for all so to speak?
Those are just a few ideas for when finalising the contest.

I got the solution to the image problem....
have them create a 'thumbnail' about 100x100 with the link to the larger image...
It wouldnt take up much space, bandwith.. etc..
I doubt prizes for this compo would work as some would rip out their hair to get them, and it is quite a steep learning curve to edit pictures..

Hey guys, seems we have a real interest in having an "Edited Screenshot Contest". I will tell you that the mods & judges who run the Monthly Screenie Contest have no time to dedicate to something like this. We have a hard enough time running the Monthly!
I have notified Pete about this thread so he can take a look. He is real busy so he might not get into the Edited forum too often.
I will suggest that maybe you guys can have 1 mod only on this forum who can "run" it if they so desire. There is really no way of making a separate forum for this, we have enough already! Like somebody said, you really don't need a prize, bragging rites is good enough for a month! The "Edited Screenshot Hall of Fame" is a good idea for a sticky, but I would say that's it in regards to "Cluttering the forum". I will let him know and if you have any questions, you can PM me and I will do whatever I can to see if it flies! It can't go like this one, people on dial up have a hard time loading pages and the goal here is to make the forums run smoothly for everybody.

I propose the following set of rules.. they may seem familier, this is becuase I've based them on the rules of the established Official Comp.
The Rules:
Any contestant judged to have violated these rules will be disqualified.
Please start a thread for your entries with the following format:
Entry for unofficial Edits Contest *year* / *month* by *name*
eg
Entry for unofficial Edits Contest 2005 / March by Igorski
1. Open only to SimV forum members registered before February 8, 2005. This is to prohibit registering multiple user names to allow more entries. It is also enforced to keep people who are not regulars at this forum, from joining just to try to win the monthly prize! Sorry and better luck next time!
2. Contests will run from the first of the month, until the 21st of the month (aprox 3 weeks). Entries submitted after Midnight of the the 21st GMT will not be accepted. Judging will occur after the 21st and the results, and any criteria for the next comp will be announced before the 1st of the new month.
3. Edited Screenshots from any flight simulator allowed!
4. Once an entry is submitted, it may not be withdrawn. This is to keep the confusion to a minimum, and to maintain forum integrity. Entries may be withdrawn from the contest, but no additional entries from that member will be accepted.
5. Only 2 entries per member.
6. Entries may be of and aircraft and scenery, This is a contest of your editing skills, not your choice of aircraft!
7. Entries MUST be edited in some way!
8. All images must be produced specifically with the intent of entering them in this contest. No screenshots previously posted images or pre-contest images will be accepted.
9. All images must be within proper forum guidelines. Any images over 100 kb in weight and greater than 800 pixels wide will not be considered.
10 No-one can be forced to judge
11 No-one who judges can enter the competition
12 Anyone wishing to judge in the next comp must make announce this in their entry
-- end of rules --

"any comment on these?"
Rule 1, 3rd sentence. Could be interpreted that you are trying to form your own clique amongst the Simviation membership.
Rule 5. Suggest 1 entry per member taking part.
Rule 6. Provided that the entry is acceptable within rules 3 and 7, anything that is featured within the flight sims should be OK.
Rule 8. Delete entirely. Keeping this rule in would void the spontaneity of the competition and possibly the fun for some of entering.

The first rule, and that bit specifically, is taken directly from the rules in the official competition, *note i should have altered the date to be generic to our competition.
perosnally, i like the idea of being able to enter 2 images, but if more people what just 1 then, thats fine by me. (of course you can just enter 1, theres no requirement to enter 2)
rule 8, i would have no problem removing personally, again that was taken striat from the official comp rules.
oops yes some of those rules now effectively repeat themselves, sorry.

any flightsimulator(rule 3). Does that include non Mircosoft games?
I agree that rule 8 can be removed.
Maybe add a rule that the judges always can ask for the original unedited screenshot when they suspect cheating.

Sounds fair enough to me.
Seeing the volume of entries for the normal screenshot comps I'd probably go for one shot per entrant...

any comment on these?
I agree with being done specifically for the comp. but maybe reduce that to just the edit being new
For example : BananaBob's 2nd placed Seaking, if he were to enter THAT SPECIFIC edit, we could disqualify it, but if he were to re-edit it differently - it would be acceptable.
Same with un-edited screenies, even if they were posted in 1906
- if they were edited in some way they could be acceptable.
I mean, not many would re-enter the same shot several times simply because :
1) It wouldn't really test their skills
and
2) It wouldn't show us what they're capable of
As for the rest of the rules.......... Looking good from my side.
Although, Nitro's idea of the judges calling/asking for the original if there's any doubt over an entry, is a very good idea
And I agree with MS games only (From '95 through to '04 Via Combat series, the choice is yours)
Also to avoid any claims of favouritism, maybe we should avoid choosing the same person two consecutive months
Cheers, can't wait.....

How about the winner becomes one of judges for the next month competition.
He/she could have the casting vote, seeing as you have 4 judges which might lead to a 50/50 split.
"Maybe add a rule that the judges always can ask for the original unedited screenshot when they suspect cheating."
Good idea.

A revised set, based on the comments made, i've removed the first rule entirely as we dont actually have a prize
and im sure the persons style of editing would show them up in multiple entries anyway
The Rules:
Any contestant judged to have violated these rules will be disqualified.
Please start a thread for your entries with the following format:
Entry for unofficial Edits Contest *year* / *month* by *name*
eg
Entry for unofficial Edits Contest 2005 / March by Igorski

Judging will occur after the 21st and the results, and any criteria for the next comp will be announced before the 1st of the new month.
2. Once an entry is submitted, it may not be withdrawn. This is to keep the confusion to a minimum, and to maintain forum integrity. Entries may be withdrawn from the contest, but no additional entries from that member will be accepted.
3. Base screenshots may be taken from any MS Flight sim, and are not limited to freeware aircraft, you must edit the shot in some way.
4. Only 2 entries per member.
5. Any particular edit must be produced specially for use in this contest, but the same base image may have been taken at any time, and can be re-used if you wish.
6. All images must be within proper forum guidelines. Any images over 100 kb in weight and greater than 800 pixels wide will not be considered.
7. No-one can be forced to judge
8. No-one who judges can enter the competition
9. Anyone wishing to judge in the next comp must make announce this in their entry
-- end of rules --
I agree with jusges being able to request the base screenshot if in doubt. As for the winner being the judge of the next comp, see rule 7, we can request that they offer their support by judging, also this removes any 'favouritism' issues, but if the same person made two darn good edits, in two consecutive months, they they should deserve the credit?

Hi all, just been talking to 'Fly2e' We ok to proceed with march's edits comp. As soon as we get an agreement on rules, we'll just have to let him know and it'll get stickyed. Whats the topic for this march's comp? That;ll need to go in the sticky too.

YES!
Right,
Rules : Current ones seem fair, yet strict enough to me
Also we should look into adding a list of GUARANTEED judges for every month (like myself), that way we can go with the idea of entrants PM'ing one of us, just to make sure their entry isn't missed
Topic : Maybe something simple like, Default Aircraft? or one you rarely see : Helo's?
Cheers,
Carl

Darn i knew i'd forgotten that. Yes we will need one user per comp who will be able to accept PM's from entrants to make sure their entries are noted. Also additional rule.
Entrants muct send a PM to *selected judge* before the end of the comp to make sure their entry is counted.
We shouldnt disqualify someone who forgets, as this is really just asn extra checking measure for us.

It's the easiest if just 1 judge receives all the pm's and maintaining a list. If all the judges have to do this together then it would be way to complicated.
About the list of guaranteed judges, I will stay judge for a while so you can put me on the list, if you want to make one.

After a few comps, and changes of judges lots of people know it... I think just allocating one judge to receive PM's is best, We need to make it clear in the sticky that it may change each month! (ie the receiver from the previous month: expect PMs from people who dont know it may have changed! and please refrain from having a go at them, a gentle push towards looking at our sticky each month will do fine.)
Also my vote goes with modern mil, but we need to make sure we change each month, or me and t'other Andy will do modern mil every month
Ps, thanks for voluenteering Nitro, we'll get back to you if we need you to help

OK - we have less than a handful of days to go
So..........Modern Mil is cool with me, as are all the revised rules that have been set-out
Let's get this shindig started
Who's gonna be selected PM receiver for first month?

Ok so topic is modern military, Carl if your ok to receive PM's then just shout, otherwise one of the other judges will need to voulenter, a list of all the judges would be useful too, so we know who's doing what and who cant enter.

While I think, we'll want some kind of example pic for the sticky, so do you want me to dig up some of my old edits, I've got that smashing red arrows one, or a low flying F16? feelw free to use one like that Tornado from the start of the last comp, thats was neat!

)

I was thinking like the official comp, where the pic matches the topic.. the sticky post can be edited each month with the details of the next comp, judges, who to PM, topic, and an example.

Aaah, good point
Sounds good, I'm not fussy over who's pic does or doesn't get used (as long as it's my Tornado
.....jk), this low flying F16 sounds quite intriguing, but then I love the Red Arrows
.
As I say, whatever floats ones boat is fine by me, F16, Hawks, Tornado, your raspberry ripple shot, Gus's Harrier.
Maybe, I kow it's short notice, but maybe someone could do one SPECIFICALLY for the sticky ???
Just my latest thoughts.....

Dont wanna use up all the ideas I have for the actual comp
as your tornado was never actually judged in the last comp, then that one would be a pretty fair choice to use.

Sounds fair enough to me, I'll see if I can come up with something tonight, if not, I'd be quite happy with the Tornado being used 8)

Ok, 4 days til march! If we're all happy with the rules, then we need to get it posted, Carl, as your head guy here, you can do that if you want. Just copy the rules from my post above, dont forget the one added after about sending the PM 8) list the judges if you want, but make sure your Username is in there corectly for users to PM. If you want me to have a read before you post then send it me in a PM.

If you wanna do it, you're more than welcome to.
I'm about to start flying, so may not get a chance until tomorrow.
If you do it today, at least we know they'll be there
Cheers,
Carl
