Well, it is possible to pick up AM radio stations on NDBs, but as for FM stations (or any type of radio that is meant for the sole purpose of listening to non-aviation channels) no. No pilot should be listening to the radio while he/she is flying.

Those big airliners... where your in the cabin plugging in your headphones to listen to music, they are connected to the ADF antennas. You might notice in some cockpits that they have a switch with one mode going "cabin ADF." But yeah, i know you can't do it in FS (pick up any stations that is), but in most aircraft, just flip on your ADF, tune in a station, and you can listen to the football game
Cheers,

If they disapproved all you'd have to say is that you were listening to find out which station it was. NDB was one of the first radio navigation systems developed for aircraft. The FCC requires a radio station to give it's call letters and station identification info on a regular basis.
In the old days of aviation this was one of the best navigation aids there was. Just listen to the ball game until the station gives their ID then look it up on your map, tune to different station (also carrying the ball game
) and take a reading to that. Triangulate your position from there and you have your location. Big inprovement from the time/heading/speed navigation.

You can have both your COMMS and ADF audio turned on at the same time, so that you can hear both. You can turn down the volume of your adf as well, so it doesnt interfere too much.

We have an XM radio installed in the Meridian and AM/FM radios installed in all the helicopters. Any time there is any activitie over the radio it cuts off.
