...and you could use it to see and hear a performance that you missed, what show would you like to see (any time or place)?  My choice would be to go to the Hot Club of France in Paris ca. 1948 to see Django Reinhardt and Stephan Grapelli play together, through a haze of smoke and absinthe. Django was possibly the greatest guitarist who ever lived!! If you play guitar and have never heard him, check it out. Even if you hate jazz you'll be impressed, esp. as he only had two fingers on his left hand!!

I couldn't agree more! Django rules! Music that withstands the test of time like that deserves all our respect.

Plus the guy was somewhat Belgian...

As for the performance to go back to? no idea, there are so many....

I would go back to 7th December 2004 - not to see a show, but to cancel the Damageplan gig, thus saving the life of one of the worlds greatest guitarists Dimebag Darrell (R.I.P. my friend, we shall never forget).

As for seeing a show - Black Sabbath, any of their shows would be great.

Carl out.....

I think about this alot so I'm glad someone started a topic about this. Here's my list:

- of course Woodstock 69: three days of love and music!

- Jimi Hendrix anythime anywhere

- The Doors (with Jim Morrison of course). I'm going to their concert (The Doors of the 21st Century) as soon as they come to Belgium again.

- Queen, especially their concert at Wembley (I can recommend you the DVD)

- Pink Floyd Live at Pompej

- U2 Live at Redrocks

- Nirvana unplugged

- Led Zeppelin

Yes yes, I know good music when I hear it!  Wink

Not a bad choice. There are so many I've missed & I have broad tastes in music so it's difficult to think of just one. I would love to have seen Gene Krupa with the Benny Goodman band.

May 7, 1824, the first performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.

"The master, though placed in the midst of this confluence of music, heard nothing of it at all and was not even sensible of the applause of the audience at the end of his great work, but continued standing with his back to the audience, and beating the time, till Fraülein Unger, who had sung the contralto part, turned him, or induced him to turn round and face the people, who were still clapping their hands, and giving way to the greatest demonstrations of pleasure. His turning round, and the sudden conviction thereby forced upon everybody that he had not done so before, because he could not hear what was going on, acted like an electric shock on all present, and a volcanic explosion of sympathy and admiration followed, which was repeated again and again, and seemed as if it would never end."

http://www.pittsburghsymphony.org/pghsymph.nsf/0/3AACF92EE10D1F1385256E1C0057436...

An interesting bit of trivia - why does a CD hold 80 minutes of music?  So the entire Ninth Symphony can fit on one.

If you did it's very doubtful you would hear them because of the screaming female fans. They couldn't even hear themselves at big outdoor venues so the quality wasn't anything to write home about. You're better off listening to the recordings.

Which is exactly why they stopped touring.

That & the fact that they could no longer duplicate their recordings live. Lots of effects were only possible in the studio, mainly done on a 4-track tape machine & splicing razor. The equipment wasn't quite as advanced in them days. In fact it was prehistoric.  Amplification wasn't like it is now either.

Have you seen or heard those screaming teenage girls? They would trample you to death to touch their heroes & think nothing of it. Not interested in you in the slightest. You go if you want. I'm stayin' right here thanks very much. Tongue Grin

True enough, it'd be dangerous... but of course, time machines can hover for long periods, so I'd watch from a safe distance.Grin    I agree that it would not be much of a musical experience- I've seen the footage. That concert at Shea Stadium especially... with the PA they had there, even if the young ladies were sitting quietly, it'd would've sounded like crap.

My spanish teacher saw The Beatles live at Shea Stadium, she said most of the girls fainted when The Beatles came out.

I would see the last Beatles concert, on top of their studio in the UK. I would also see Led Zep, KISS, Buddy Holly, and the beach boys before 1/2 of them died, and Hendrix.

Well to be fair that would mean eliminating many forms of music as rap has roots in many styles of music.
