...and you could use it to see and hear a performance that you missed, what show would you like to see (any time or place)?  My choice would be to go to the Hot Club of France in Paris ca. 1948 to see Django Reinhardt and Stephan Grapelli play together, through a haze of smoke and absinthe. Django was possibly the greatest guitarist who ever lived!! If you play guitar and have never heard him, check it out. Even if you hate jazz you'll be impressed, esp. as he only had two fingers on his left hand!!

  I'd go back to anywhere I could see Jim Morrison and The Doors perform live and also Jimi Hendrix.

I would go back to 7th December 2004 - not to see a show, but to cancel the Damageplan gig, thus saving the life of one of the worlds greatest guitarists Dimebag Darrell (R.I.P. my friend, we shall never forget).

As for seeing a show - Black Sabbath, any of their shows would be great.

An interesting bit of trivia - why does a CD hold 80 minutes of music?  So the entire Ninth Symphony can fit on one.

Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Cream: missed all three; had gigs.  Pick only one?  For me, Jimi.  But I must say, what a great question!

True enough, it'd be dangerous... but of course, time machines can hover for long periods, so I'd watch from a safe distance.    I agree that it would not be much of a musical experience- I've seen the footage. That concert at Shea Stadium especially... with the PA they had there, even if the young ladies were sitting quietly, it'd would've sounded like crap.

I guess I would go to see Bach playing. If the range of my time machine was not that long I would choose woodstock

I'd go back to last wekk to catch the slipknot show i missed in chicago. my long haired friend here (think ozzy with hair to his ass) would go back to one of Black sabbath's best concerts.

lol i withdraw my comment regarding the beatles.  I do remember reading somewhere that when they played in my home town Wellington, NZ there was so much urine left on the pavement after it had to be sprayed off
