SP2 did just fine on my Dad's PC, but whenever I intstall it on mine, after the post, but before XP boo-up, I get a flash of blue screen and it reboots. I've been able to get into Safe Mode and restore, but I really want SP2. Any ideas?

Could be space issue or spyware.
Be sure to scan your hard drive completely, using not only one but at least two seperate spyware softwares.
Adaware and Stinger are good choices.
It has been found that most problems with SP2 installs all come down to spyware being present on the HD before install, messes up the new security features that SP2 contain.

Don't know what your're talking about.
Installed SP2 and lovin it. Some many fixed and some many new security additions. Really worth the download (or you can get a sp2 cd for free too).
And to Fozzer, what web page are you talking about? SP2 includes fixes for IE, but it in no ways changes the way page's HTML is "interpretted" (for lack of a better word). Plus, you should be using firefox which is not affected by SP2

Who needs a firewall, please? You can't stop real hackers with that. A good virus/spyware scanner and some closed ports is all you need. The rest is an unnecessary waste of system performance.

Yes, the windows security firewall is a joke...but is adequade for most home users. You say real hackers can get past it, well duh. But real hackers target companies and people with important info. For the average home user, getting their comp hacked is annoyance and so this firewall generally protects against these small annoyances.
However, companies will use enterprise firewalls and etc. because hacking is more than an annoyance for them.
In addition, SP2 fixes a lot of security holes in windows. And just so you know, the win firewall is there to prevent against future holes, not to patch existing ones.
And just so you know, I think the windows firewall is just fine. Its the only software firewall I use and I've never had a problem.

Can't say that i reccomend SP2 either. After installing it on my PC it decided to have compatability issues with my current virus protection, forcing me to shut it down and use the one from the service pack. Since that ive been getting spyware regularly, and all the time its prompting me to update...
in short, DONT DO IT!
