I have never really gotten into jazz, and I have an extremely broad range of musical tastes.
Jazz always sounds to me like a bunch of guys noodling around on their instruments while paying no real attention to what any of the other guys in the group are doing.
Like a free-for-all-toot-your-horn session.

The sort of Jazz that Paz and I are referring to, (apart from Modern Jazz), is what we call "Jamming", where the musicians play a fized  sequence of notes, chords and bars, following a regular pattern, so that each musician knows exactly what the next pattern will be.
Even the listening audience are "tapping" along to the same patterns... 8)...!

With Modern Jazz, and "Improvisation", it appears that each musician is playing independently of the rest of the band, who are desperately trying to guess what the next sequence is "likely" to be..... Roll Eyes...!

It generally does not conform the the "Western" style of music playing, with a fixed number of beats to the bar... Wink...!

The listening audience are mostly confused, and "tapping along" is out of the question... Cry...!

An exponent of "Modern Jazz" is the pianist, Dudley Moore,(of comedy and film fame).

For the Classic style of Western music listen to:
John Dowland
Henry Purcell.
Mozart.
J.S. Bach.
The 12 bar blues style.
Boogie-Woogie.
Elvis.
Top Of The Pops.
etc...

All easily recognized, and danced to, by the general public... Grin...!

The type of music I could NEVER relate to is that which is called "Concrete" music, composed by such people as Sir Michael Tippet, etc... Roll Eyes...!
(I suspect that a quantity of Magic Mushrooms must be consumed by Sir Michael before putting pen to paper)... Wink...!

Me...?
I'll stick to the 12 bar Blues... Grin...!

Cheers all...!

Paul. A "regular" musician... Wink... Grin...!
