If we are talking stock aircraft as included with the game then Tempest every time. However if we are talking add ons the AvHistory MkIX is miles better than the stock model and the two MkXIVs they have rule the sky.

I prefer the Tempest. Big brute of a machine that with practice is almost unbeatable.

Are we talking in a ground attack role or fighter? If so, then ground, for sure the Tempest. I even think it was kind of the birth child for the A-10. With it's armoured cockpit and awsome fire power. If fighter, hands down, a Spit will out manouver a Tempest any day of the week.

My grandfather flew both of them. He said the Spit was a dream boat and a lovley piece of machinary. As for the Tempest, he said once you could control it, there was not much on the ground ( or slow moving air targets) that could get away from it's fire power. A funny thing, he said when you see models of Tempests these days, they forgot to put the most contraversal decal in the kits. He said  the Tempest had a bad knack for the huge air intake to catch fire on start - up. So the military decided to put a warning on the intake on each side. It stated:

If this engine should ignight on start up, don't just stand there, try putting the bloody thing out as well.

The trouble with the stock Spitfire is that it seriously under performs. It is slow and lacks “grunt.” Enemy aircraft just have a laugh and fly away from it. The Tempest is just awesome. Fast, easily able to dogfight anything in the sim and even kills jest with ease. The newer add on Spits at AvHistory finally do justice to the Spitfire and even the Avhistory MkVs easily out fight the stock MkIXs.

I must remind Flightmedic that the Tempest was a high altitude interceptor and not a ground attack aircraft. The Typhoon was the tankbuster.

Hmmmmm...........somehow I was thinking Tempest in name but typed the specs for the Typhoon..................hmmmmmmmm.........um.....ya..... Embarrassed

As for the story....my Grandfather flew Typhoons not Tempests.

BUT I will stick to my guns though.......I still think a MKIX will still out perform a Tempest. Although I will give the Tempest credit where credit is due. For an aircraft of it's size and profile.......it is pretty manouverable and has real sweet fire power. IF (and that a biggie... Wink ) a IX every got into a Tempest sights....... Roll Eyes..lol.....it would be toast.

I wouldn't be too sure on that. Each have their strengths and weaknesses. Afterall, if Corsair's could tackle Zeros then surely Tempests can take on Spitfires. In the end I reckon it would go down to who jumped who. But remember, both could absolutely cream an Fw190. Grin

Ok, look, I'll give you a reason to fly the tempest 8)

On a online dogfight, GermanvsBrits I was flying in my tempest at tree top level, and out behind came this Spit(God knows why they had to put these machines against each other Cry) He fired a burst at me, which clobbered my engine, so I swung left and right to get away from him while flying down a valley Grin we pulled up, and a got off the power, and let the spit go infront, then as we dived back down into the the valley and I let off a burst of cannon fire into his engine, and boom, fire bursts out from his engine, another burst tears into his wing, and he goes down

Though admittly after that another Spitfire came in, and tore me apart Sad

To be honest, although the fighter type helps a lot, I think it mainly depends on the pilot, you can be dogfighting in the most superior fighter ever built, but if your tactics aint up to par, then you'll be taken down even by a completely obsolete type if its pilot knows his stuff. I try to practice on most of the enemy planes in free flight, just to keep their strengths and weaknesses fresh in my head. But I must admit when it comes to the choice between a Spit and a Tempest, I would have to pick a IX. But if its the four 20mm's you want, I recommend the 1% Spit mkVC, it seems to have bout the same maneouvarability as the stock IXc but with those four cannons (YEAHH Grin).

Whoops, there gos the world.

Spitfire IXe...The IXc is just as great...and HOT Grin...but the 'e' doesn't get mad at me if I make a sharp turn during a low altitude chase.....low alt. as in treetop level Tongue

The Tempest isn't bad...but she just kinda looks like me...and everybody else on that 'We are all SimV' Wall of Shame Grin
