thats 707 Jr:) Wink
This will also most likely mean the end of MD as we know it. The long beach plant that MD used and now boeing uses for the 717 will be closed, and the 717 a basicilly new MD80/DC9 will end the last in a line of MD aircraft in the commercial sector. Cry

Didn't came as a surprise, since the 717 is a competitior to the smaller 737's. Boeing tried, however to market the 717 as a RJ choice in order to face the competition from Embraer and Bombardier. While the 717 boast superb performance and legroom (Wink), it's just simply too large and fuel consuming to be on par with the CRJ/ERJ's.

the other thing in that link about the 767 taking over the tanker role is quite interesting. I was wondering when they would start phasing out the 135s. Although I dont think the RC-135 will be going anywhere soon, as they just re-fitted the whole fleet with new avionics and such.

P.S. sorry if I wondered to far off topic, ignore if necessary.

Actually, you're both right.

I would presume that jrpilot meant the 707, but the "original" 717 was also the model number for the KC-135.....
